  • Trivia & Quotes
  • Quotes (3)

    • Shaggy: Himalaya, Honolulu, what's the difference? Daphne: About 7,000 miles!

    • Vincent Van Ghoul: Once upon a midnight dreaming, I woke up to a ghostly screaming, so I gazed into the crystal ball to see what was new. And what I watched was truly shocking -- the demon chest, it was unlocking -- unlocking the thirteen ghosts of Scooby-Doo!

    • Flim-Flam: Lotsa Luck Joy Juice! It's a lucky charm in a bottle! Lotsa Luck removes all unwanted curses, jinxes, and evil spells. It's also a great rocket fuel and a darn good dandruff remover.

    Notes (2)

    • This is yet another addition to the Scooby-Doo franchise, based off the original Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! show that started in 1969. The most recent Scooby-Doo series before this one was The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries which ended just a week before this series started, and also aired on ABC.

    • Daphne and Shaggy's looks are updated. Shaggy switches from his normal green shirt to red. Daphne has a new hairstyle (which was a popular hairstyle for women at the time) and she now has two to three different outfits that she switches between episodes. The Mystery Machine has also been updated.

    Trivia (3)

    • It is established in this episode that The Chest of Demons may only be opened by "the living," yet in nearly every subsequent episode, a ghost/demon/monster is trying to snatch the chest to open it, and several (briefly) succeed at doing so.

    • Since the storyline had not yet been established, the opening credits segment does not appear in this episode -- the title of the series is not shown at all. In its original ABC broadcasts, it cut to a "13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo" title card before the first break, but this has not appeared in the subsequent reruns.

    • While trying to fend off werewolf Daphne, Flim Flam shoots the cork out of a bottle of Lotsa Luck Joy Juice, and in the next shot the bottle is re-corked.

    Allusions (5)

    • Scooby: (singing) Hawaii lies over the ocean, Hawaii lies over the sea. This is a take off of the traditional Scottish folk song "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean".

    • Daphne: Look again Lindbergh, that's not sand, it's snow! Daphne is referring to Charles Lindbergh, a pilot who is famous for making the first non-stop trip across the Atlantic Ocean.

    • Character: Haunty Maul Weerd appears as Haunty Maul, host of "Let's Make 'Em Squeal." This is a spoof of game show host Monty Hall and the series "Let's Make a Deal."

    • Music: "To All The Ghouls I've Loved Before"

Scooby and Ghoulio sing "To All the Ghouls I've Loved Before" a rip-off of the Willie Nelson / Julio Iglesias song, "To All the Girls I've Loved Before."

    • Flim Flam: "Trouble" with a capital "T" and that rhymes with "B" and that stands for "Bad luck".

Replace "B" with "P" and "Bad luck" with "Pool" and you have a quote from the musical, Music Man.
