  • Captain Barbera: Who are you? Peter: It's all right, Captain. She's with me. Gail: I have my credentials. Gail Hoffman with the National Paper and the Weekly Examiner. Captain Barbera: Great. Another one. Next it will be Woodward and Bernstein.

  • Peter: You know, Rita, you shouldn't really talk to him like that. He could have you fired. Rita: He wouldn't dare. Peter: Oh, yes he would. And he will to if you if you make him mad enough. He has some very important friends that could make it very difficult for you to get another job. Rita: Oh yeah. Well I've got some friends, too, that could make it very difficult for him to keep the tires on his Royals, if you know what I mean.

  • Jameson: What are you doing here? Peter: Oh, sir. Here. I thought you might like to see these. Jameson: What are they? (Looking at photos of Spider-Man with the three Samurai) That's incredible. How come you're the only one who is able to get pictures of him? Peter: Simple... I believe.

  • Detective Monahan: What do you want me to do about this Spider-Man? Captain Barbera: Oh, I'm getting reinforcements for him. Detective Monahan: Good. Captain Barbera: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and if we're lucky, Rumpelstiltskin will lend a hand. What am I going to do about Spider-Man? How do I know? I'm a cop, not an exterminator.

  • (After receiving his first assignment) Jameson: Do you know where 10th & Carlisle is? Peter: Yes, sir. It was on my paper route when I was a kid. Jameson: And that's what you'll being doing again if you don't bring me some decent pictures. Get it.

  • (Asking about Spider-Man) J. Jonah Jameson: What'd he look like? Peter: Like a spider. J. Jonah Jameson: How many legs did he have? Peter: Well two, of course. He's a man. J. Jonah Jameson: You just said he was a spider. Spiders have got lots of legs. Peter: No, sir, he's like a spider. He can do the things a spider does. Climb walls and spin webs and he's very, very strong.

  • (As Peter is taking pictures of the car accident) Captain Barbera: Hey! Hey you. I'm Captain Barbera. I understand you saw this. Peter: Oh, yes sir. I was coming out of the drug store and this car started following me. So, I ran down here to get away and he came after me. Captain Barbera: Do you know the man? Peter: No, sir. I've never saw him in my life. Captain Barbera: Just one of life's little mysteries, huh.

  • (looking at photos that Peter has given to him) J. Jonah Jameson: Very pretty. Very pretty but what good are they? I'm not running an art gallery here. I need pictures that jump off the page, Grab the reader. (Hands photos back to Peter) Sorry, Parker. They're not for us.

Notes (24)

  • The rooftop fight, the swing and the jump across the rooftops were filmed in LA mere blocks away from the firehouse used for the interiors of both Ghostbusters movies.

  • A couple of intersting tidbits (1) Rita gets a call from a Socialist organization asking for Mr. Jameson to make a donation. (2) In laughing about this phone call with Peter Parker she [Rita] remarks that Mr. Jameson is so conservative he would not eat a steak if it was even a little pink ["pinko" is a slang term for a socialist or a homosexual]. (3) Plans had been made to have Mr. White battle Spider-Man again, but they never panned out.

  • The pilot originally aired as a 90-minute TV movie.

  • This episode was combined with the Con Caper episode when the series was put into syndication, and later released on videotape in the combined 2 hour long video 'movie' format.

  • In recent years, Morgan Fairchild has been featured in several memorable commercials for Old Navy clothes.

  • The late Harold Sakata was a professional wrestler before he turned to acting. His best-known role (without a doubt) is that of "Oddjob," the hulking Oriental bodyguard of GOLDFINGER, from the James Bond/007 movie of the same name.

  • In one scene President Calderon is looking at a picture of his kidnapped daughter (Maria) while talking to the kidnapper (Alvarez). The close-up shot of the picture of his daughter is indeed his daughter. But in a shot of Calderon handing the picture to Alvarez, the picture is definitely not of his daughter.

  • With an odd number of hour long episodes to be combined into seven 2 hour syndication packages of 'movies' featuring three 2 hour long stories and four 2 episode compilations which were later sold as 2 hour video tapes, this episode was chosen to be left out, and remained unseen until a onetime appearance during a Sci-Fi Channel marathon nearly 20 years later. It remains the least seen episode of the series.

Trivia (6)

  • Goof: Notice as Rita, Mr. Jameson and Peter are getting into the elevator that the boom mike can be seen above them.

  • Goof: Notice as Dr. Moon comes into the lab, the boom mike can be seen directly above him.

  • How is it that Peter's clone (as well as those of everybody else) has the exact same memories as the real one? Even though he came out of the cloning chamber looking alike, he certainly would not have the same life experiences as the original being that he was "born" inside a machine. Despite having an adult body, the clone should have an infantile mentality. In the Flash TV series, that was the more accurate (and dangerous) result of what happened when the superhero was cloned.

  • In the Marvel Universe (and in many others, Star Wars included) clones are created thinking that they are the people from whom they are cloned (remember the Scarlet Spider?). From a technilogical point of view, this is possible (as memories are stored chemically), but VERY improbable.

  • This episode is similar to the storyline in the blockbuster film Die Hard. This is probably because both are loosely based on the 1970's novel titled; Nothing Lasts Forever

  • The computer sounds from the computer room match those used on the bridge of the Enterprise in Star Trek.
