    • Darwin: Anyway, I got a better idea. Gumball: Is it stupid, desperate, and very unlikely to get us out of this mess? Darwin: Yes. Gumball: Is it humiliating? Darwin: If we get it wrong. Gumball: Are we likely to get it wrong? Darwin: Possibly. Gumball: In the time it's taking me to ask you these questions, could you have just told me what it is? Darwin: Definitely. Gumball: Can we get on with it then? Darwin: Yeah, we better.

    • Darwin: Dude! It's a letter from Laser Video! Gumball: Ah, so what? Put it with the others. (points to a pile of letters from the video store) Darwin: No, this one's red! It means urgent! Gumball: Red envelope or red writing? Darwin: Red writing on red envelope. It's really hard to read, actually.

    • Gumball: We were born reprehensible. Nicole: Responsible.Gumball: That's what I meant.

    • Gumball: It's great being beautiful. (to Anais) You should try it sometime.

    • Gumball: (to Darwin) Stay perfectly still. Her vision is based on movement. Tina: That only works in movies.

    • Gumball: At lunch break, come see me attempt... the impossible!
Jamie: What, are you gonna get a girlfriend?

    • Darwin: What do I need a girlfriend for? Rachel: For this. (kisses Darwin on the cheek) Darwin: (whispers) Everything is so clear now.

    Trivia (10)

    • Running Gag: Darwin keeps telling Gumball that they should just tell the truth about the D.V.D. and face the consequences of their actions.

    • In The Debt, there is a spelling error (assasinated) on the note which Darwin and Anais sent to Gumball.

    • A running gag in The Third is that Darwin keeps asking Gumball if he can borrow $10 from him.

    • "The Dress" is the first episode to have nudity. However, the rating was TV-Y7, so to avoid being TV-MA, they censored private parts.

    Allusions (5)

    • The DVD Gumball and Darwin rent is called "Alligators on a Train". This name is based on the 2006 horror film "Snakes on a Plane".

    • The scene where Doughnut Sheriff hits a baby carriage with his car is similar to the scene from the 1994 movie Speed. In both instances the baby carriage was filled with cans.

    • Narrator: Then she got an idea, an awful idea! Ms. Simian got a wonderful, horribly awful idea! /

This narration is almost, word for word, an exact quote from Chuck Jones' 1965 animated television masterpiece version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas; only instead of the words 'she' and 'Ms. Simian,' it was 'he' and 'the Grinch.'

    • Batman: When Nicole Watterson is 'supposedly' fighting the guards that Darwin has guarding his safety stronghold, every time that Nicole is about to 'supposedly' hit someone, instead of the action being seen, a sound effect card with a random action word appears instead. This is a reference to the 1960's live-action T.V. series incarnation of Batman starring Adam West and Burt Ward; the show would constantly employ this tactic whenever the action started getting a little heavy!

    • Looney Tunes: The cartoon show that Gumball is trying to watch, featuring an ostrich and a wolf, until Darwin breaks the 4th wall by calling the characters and interrupting the show; is an obvious parody of the Chuck Jones Road Runner and Wily E. Coyote cartoons. The Coyote would try dozens of different tactics and plans in his hungering quest to catch the Road Runner, but always end up failing every single time!
