  • Episode Description
  • When a young couple wakes the Taylors late one night wanting to get married, Andy is happy to oblige - until the feuding fathers show up with shotguns! Attempting to be a peacemaker proves difficult, however, because neither family can remember what started the feud in the first place.

  • Trivia & Quotes
  • Quotes (1)

    • Andy: (quoting Romeo and Juliet) Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow, That I shall say good night till it be morrow. Opie: What does that mean Paw? Andy: It means I'd like to stay and jabber with you a while, but I gotta to be movin' on.

    Notes (2)

    • The fictional Wakefield-Carter feud featured in this episode was a takeoff on the real Hatfield-McCoy feud of the late 1800's. However, although the Wakefields and Carters were noted for never having spilled a drop of blood, the Hatfield-McCoy feud was perhaps the bloodiest and longest-running feud in American history.

    • Josh and Hannah are the second couple that Andy marries in the series. He married Wilbur and Rose in the first episode and would later marry Charlene and Dud Wash in the courthouse.

    Trivia (3)

    • This episode was a vehicle for Andy Griffith's Romeo & Juliet stand up routine, which was released on his classic comedy album in the late 1950's. It is generally considered second only to "What it was, was football".

    • Andy says he learned some French when he was "over there in the war."

    • During the duel, Andy pretends to check the shotguns and removes the shells. He mistakenly switches the guns when he hands them back.
