  • show Description
  • Nowadays you're a nobody if you don't have your own reality show. Andy feels that he'd throw his whole career away to have his very own reality show. So he begged MTV and got his wish. Now he's gonna subject 12 innocent Hollywood wannabes to a grueling process as he searches for his next assistant. The winner gets a new car, a new wardrobe and a cool job working in Hollywood. Andy gets a revived career, 12 shrinks (the kids) to deal with his problems and the opportunity at cocktail parties to say, "Oh, you don't have your own reality show? Well, I do!"The contestants have a dream, Andy has an agenda--together they are headed for reality chaos as Andy begs, borrows and steals from other shows and discovers that "this whole elimination thing is a lot harder then I thought."Good luck, suckers!moreless

  • Trivia & Quotes
  • Quotes (53)

    • Andy Dick: I think I belong on the A-list. I don't know what the rest of Hollywood thinks. Do I care? *sticks up middle finger* Does that answer your quest-nee-nay?

    • Andy Dick: "Here's a rose for the tall glass of water [Colin] in the back there."

    • Andy Dick: "When I knock on your garage door, you ask, 'How High?'!"

    • Andrew: "Hey, maybe I'm not meant to be his bitch."

    • Andy Dick: "I would really like to eliminate everybody right now, but then I wouldn't have a fu*king show."

    • Andy Dick: "It's elimination time, bitches."

    • Andy Dick: "Tanika comes bounding out of the limosine like a cheerleader on crack cocaine!"

    • Andy Dick: "Thank god, they got hot chicks on my show."

    Trivia (16)

    • Andrew's goof was saying he was just there to "hang out" instead of appearing to be eager for this opportunity.

    • Nikeda's goof was not reading The Life and Times of Andy Dick and studying up on it.

    • Sarah's goof was not trying her best to make a good meal, and also having Jeff as a partner (even though that wasn't her fault...)

    • Jeff's goof was losing his temper while in the kitchen and insulting Andy behind his back.

    • Andy Garcia's birthday is the 12th not the 11th.

    • Didn't the kids get "The Life and Times of Andy Dick"? Wouldn't they know his birthday from that?

    • Nikeda's goof was screwing up with her second chance. She had one more chance than the other assistants to prove themselves, and she didn't step it up. She didn't do her assigned task, and when not talking halfheartedly on the phone, she would just sit on a chair fiddling with papers.

    • Ebony's goof was not being social enough. She didn't really try to interact with the other assistants or Andy. Instead, Ebony mostly spent the time by herself or asleep.

    Allusions (12)

    • The Reference: Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
The game show Andy hosts in his living room is an obvious take off of ABC'S Who Wants to be a Millionaire? where the contestants answer a series of questions that gets harder as they get closer to the million dollar jackpot.

    • The Reference: The Bachelor/Bachelorette
The first elimination ceremony is a play off of the way The Bachelor/Bachelorette elimination ceremonies work. On the series, the Bachelor/Bachelorette hands out roses to everyone they would like to keep. The one without a rose is eliminated.

    • The Reference: America's Next Top Model
The elimination ceremony was done in the same style as America's Next Top Model's ceremonies. The potential models all line up in a room in front of a blue cloth covered table where the judges are seated. One by one, they are called up and shown either footage of themselves or that week's photo shoot. When it is time to make an elimination, Tyra hands each girl their photo until one girl is left without hers.

    • The Reference: Survivor
Survivor is probably television's first reality show. When a tribe is sent to tribal council, all the members must bring torches. When someone is voted out of the game, their tribe is ritualistically snuffed out.

    • The Reference: The Apprentice
The Apprentice is a popular show on NBC starring real estate magnate Donald Trump. On the show, Donald tries to find a person who has the business smarts to work for him. In each of the eliminations, two people are selected to enter the Donald's dreaded boardroom where one will hear the infamous words: "You're fired!"

    • The Reference: Scare Tactics
Andy comes out dressed as a bear in an attempt to scare the assistants. This is a spoof on the show "Scare Tactics", a show in which average people are thrown into a situation and then actors set up the people to believe that something really really scary is happening. At the end of the prank, the actor asks, "Are you scared?" (as Andy was trying to say) and that's when the prank is revealed.

    • The Reference: Lie Dectector Test
The lie detector test could be a passing reference to any talk show where they do the lie detector tests to see if a guest is being faithful to their loved one, etc. It also could be a reference to "Meet My Folks" where they sometimes use lie dectectors. But, it is also likely Andy was spoofing a scene from the 2000 movie, "Meet the Parents".

    • The Reference: Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica
A possible reference to the show "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica." The newlywed couple, Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson, went on a camping trip in one episode.

  • The Assistant is about a knockoff of other shows like "America's Next Top Model," "Survivor" and any others prime time shows. We also learn that Andy Dick is a very funny man.
