  • Quotes (18)

    • Penguin: I love this movie! Man: Do you mind?! We can't see! Penguin: What I mind is this backseat yakkity-yak while I'm trying to watch a movie!

    • Batgirl: Sorry, circus boy, but you can't beat Olympic gymnastics for teaching acrobatic skills! Robin: How many times have you performed a triple aerial somersault? Batgirl: Dozens. Robin: Fifty-feet up, without a net, over hungry lions? Batgirl: I don't know if they were hungry.

    • Killer Moth: Listen, I can help you guys. I got a lot of skills. Penguin: Do enlighten us, Moth. Killer Moth: Well ... I've got stealth skills, code breaking skills, karate skills. Penguin: What about coffee-making skills? I take mine black, two lumps.

    • (As Bane breaks into a bank vault) Batgirl: Let me guess, Bane; ATM ate your card?

    • Batgirl: You'll be 40 before you get to drive the batmobile! Robin: At least I'll get to drive it!

    • This episode is the first to feature six villains!

    • Bane, Riddler, the Joker, and Mr. Freeze were all considered being a part of 'Team Penguin'. Unfortunately, Bane was taken down by Batman, Robin, and Batgirl. Joker, Riddler, and Mr. Freeze each declined Penguin's offer.

    Trivia (7)

    • The movie the Penguin watches in the beginning contains a heist scene in Venice, very much reminiscent of the movie 'The Italian Job'.

    • Robin's collapsible Bo-staff is a staple of Robin III (Tim Drake). It was given to him in his first comic book mini-series by Lady Shiva who trained Robin in its use.

    • In this episode, Batman defeated Bane with no problem at all. So, why is it in "Traction" he couldn't do the same thing to Bane? (Reply: Because it wasn't until the end of that episode that Batman discovered electricity can short out Bane's venom infusion device)

    • Here, we see the introduction of Robin's collapsable bo staff and bird-a-rangs, the latter of which were first created for his Teen Titans counterpart. Both here and in Teen Titans, the bird-a-rangs are a deliberate homage to the preferred weapon of the leader of Science Ninja Team Gatchaman Ken (in the Battle of the Planets, Mark). The homage continues in Robin's cape design including a split at the back similar to those of Gatchaman's bird-based heroes.

    • The film's ending that Penguin was watching at the beginning of this episode differed when both he and Killer Moth/Charaxes crashed through the same movie theater. When the movie's eyepatched character says, "Now that is a blueprint for success," he's clearly on his boat with his team of criminals, but near the end of the episode, the same character is shown saying the same quote in a different background. (Reply: The part Penguin dropped in on was probably a different part in the movie. Because that line was probably that character's catchphrase, he would naturally say it more than once in the movie)

    Allusions (9)

    • Injustice Gang/Injustice League: Team Penguin, a group of formidable foes of the Batman, can be related to either of these two groups of super-villains.

    • n/a: Napoleon Dynamite
Killer Moth names off what skills he has. This is a reference to Napolean Dynamite, who lists off all the skills he wants.

    • Movie Safecracker: McGuffen is secured.
A McGuffen is a term given to an object in a movie, television show or piece of writing that serves no purpose other than propelling the plot forward. One prime example is the "Grays Sports Almanac" from the 1989 film Back to the Future Part II.

    • Penguin's Movie
The movie that Penguin watches seems to be based on both The A-Team, and part of the 2003 remake of the 1967 thief film The Italian Job. Such parallels include the boat chase and the safe-cracking specialist. There also may be hints of the recent Ocean's Eleven remake, particularly in a villain who seeks to recruit the city's top thieves for a grandiose heist.

    • Explosion: Batman & Robin
When running from the exploding barrels, Batman is in the center, Batgirl on his right, and Robin on his left. What's more, they are covered almost completely in shadow. The trio did the same thing in front of the Bat signal at the end of the infamously lackluster 1997 film Batman & Robin.
