  • show Description
  • On Saturday September 25, 1965 at 10:30 a.m. (EST) on ABC, America was introduced to the Beatles Cartoons. The first cartoon series to ever feature a rock and roll group, it immediately became a hit with a 13 score and a 52 per cent share in ratings. Based loosely on the characters of the Beatles as portrayed in their film, A Hard Day's Night, each half hour program consisted of two cartoons (each approximately 8-10 minutes long) and two singalong segments stuck in-between the two episodes. Though the Beatles never took part in the creation and production of the show, save for the fact that their original music was used, the series still remains a favorite among fans who can remember getting up and eating a bowl of cereal while watching it. And thanks to MTV, Disney (who both aired the show sometime around the late 80's early 90's) and bootlegged copies, the show is continuing to enjoy an ever growing number of fans. • Quotes (80)

    • From A Hard Day's Night John: That settles it. We have to find somewheres else to rehearse. Ringo: Lads, I know the perfect place. It's big and it's empty. Paul: That sounds fine, but how do we all fit inside your head?

    • (Into to the Sing-A-Long.) Paul: Who in blazers are you suppose to be? Ringo Cupid, of course. Romantic, ain't it? (He laughs and shoots an arrow which ricochets around the stage than knocks him down.) Paul: Did you say you're Cupid or stupid? Ringo: Cupid with a "K"

    • From I Want to Hold Your Hand Paul: (After sticking his head out of the diving bell and being kissed by an amorous octopus) Say, John, have you ever been kissed by an octopus? John: Once, when I was very young. Paul: Then you're the one she wants! (Shoves John's head out of diving bell)

    • (After succesfully transferring John's brain into Frankenstein's) Dr. Florahyde: Good boy, now go back and lie down. (Frankenstein keeps walking) Dr. Florahyde: Back, back I say! (Frankenstein keeps coming) Dr. Florahyde: Do you have a screw loose or something?! (Pick Dr. Florahyde up, starts singing "If I Fell" in John Lennon's voice) Dr. Florahyde's monster:"...if i give my heart, to you, I must be sure, from the very start, that you, would love me more than her..."

    • (From Do You Want to Know a Secret) Ringo: Well, George and I are going to sleep early. We want to get up with the chickens. Paul: You will, this room is for you.(Points to a room filled with chickens.) Ringo: I'd say it's for the birds.

    • Dr. Florahyde: It's working, by George! Igor: No, no... by "John". George is the short one.

    • Dr. Florahyde: I told you to bring me the brains of a beetle. Igor: This is John- he's the brains of the Beatles.

    • George: If you put a pot by the door, a leprachaun will fill it with gold. Paul: That's ridiculous! You put it on the mantle!

    Notes (59)

    • This is the premiere episode of this series.

    • A Hard Day's Night: Produced in Australia. Note: All Beatles are singing the lead vocal. I Want To Hold Your Hand: Produced in England.

    • DO YOU WANT TO KNOW A SECRET was made in Canada. IF I FELL was made in Australia. John is the only Beatle to appear in IF I FELL.

    • PLEASE MR. POSTMAN is the only episode to make verbal reference to Brian Epstein. Epstein's 'heard' and partially seen (hand on desk) in THANK YOU GIRL, even though he's not mentioned by name.

    • Only George and Ringo appear in DEVIL IN HER HEART.

    • PLEASE MR. POSTMAN was made in England. DEVIL IN HER HEART was made in Australia.

    • NOT A SECOND TIME was made in England. SLOW DOWN was made in Austrialia.

    Trivia (46)

    • The diving bell in "I Want to Hold Your Hand" apparently has no glass in the windows, because the Beatles can stick their hands and heads through. But without windows, how do they breathe?

    • Rodrick was given a whole pie for finishing his dinner. But when he was eating his dinner, there was already a pie in his dinner.

This is possibly due to limited animation.

    • In DEVIL IN HER HEART on a sign in Transylvania is written, "Ringo Was Here".

    • In PLEASE MR. POSTMAN, when Ringo is attempting to 'telegraph' by drumming on a log, George asks "What did he say?" in John's voice.

    • At the beginning of SLOW DOWN, Paul says "It's Ringalong Ringo!" in George's voice.

    • Throughout the song sequence in CHAINS, the sailor hats John, Paul and George are wearing disappear and reappear several times.

    • At the beginning of YOU'VE REALLY GOT A HOLD ON ME, Paul asks whose bloody idea it was to go on this safari. All four Beatles reply in unison "Ringo!"- including Ringo!

    • Halfway through the song sequence in HONEY DON'T, Ringo (who's been singing the song) moves his lips- but his voice isn't heard.

    Allusions (3)

    • The character "Lips Lovelace", the big movie star in "EIGHT DAYS A WEEK", is an allusion to Marlon Brando.

    • Ringo's line in Nowhere Man about hearing the hermit's records alludes to the British group Herman's Hermits, fronted by Peter Noone.

    • "James Blonde" in PENNY LANE is an obvious homage of James Bond, Agent 007.

  • Who else but the Fab Four could have their own animated cartoon series? If I had a dollar for everytime I've heard the this or that group is going to be bigger than the Beatles, I could retire. They were the one, the only, The Beatles. Say No More.
