  • In real life, Bernie Mac did not have a sister on drugs, rather a close family friend's daughter, got pregnant. He then took the young mother and daughter in.

  • In the beginning, Bernie was very wary of doing the television show for fear it would water him down. The producers then pitched the idea of him doing the show based on one of his comedy acts which he accepted.

  • FOX originally wanted a laugh track for the show

  • Dee Dee Davis, Kellita Smith, Jeremy Suarez and Camille Winbush were all the last people to try out for their roles.Dee Dee showed up to the audition wearing pajamas and slippers.

  • Kellita Smith mentions in March 2003's Savory Magazine that the role of Wanda was the most sought out role by Black Actresses. She was hand picked by Bernie Mac for the role.

  • Bernie calls Bryana "Wanda" when he thanks her for reminding him of Jordan's name.

  • At the beginning of this episode, we see that the house has no alarm pad by the front door. Bernie Mac decides to get one later in this episode, but yet in future and past episodes we see a different one by the door.

  • In the show we see the Lions-Patriots game being played. Both teams are in the current uniforms, the Patriots in their white jerseys dark blue pants, the Lions in blue jersey silver pants. In actual NFL game between the Lions-Patriots, the teams were in their older uniforms; Patriots with the white helmet in their red jersey and the Lions with the plain silver helmet.

  • It was night time when Lydia left and when the kids apologized, but a few scenes later, you can clearly tell that its light outside.

  • When Reggie is first showing him how to bat, Jordan is swinging lefthanded. Later, at the batting cage, Jordan is swinging from the right side.

  • When Bernie showed the yearbook of what he saw from what everyone else saw, the image changed as he used the magnifying glass, but when he moved the glass away the image didn't change back.

  • When Bernie is looking at Jordan's spelling tests, they appear to be in the layout of multiple choice - not the ideal way a spelling test is given.

  • Bernie Mac: Damn, damn, damn! Bernie said this line the same way as Florida Evans did on the Good Times episode "The Big Move (2)" when her husband James died.

  • The Vanessa portion of the dream sequence is a parody of the classic Twilight Zone episode "Nightmare At 20,000 Feet".

  • Bernie Mac: Like I'm going to have Willie Tyler and Lester up in this piece. Willie Tyler is a black ventriloquist who has been performing since the 1960s. Lester is his dummy.

  • The Cost Depot store is a take-off of the warehouse chain of stores called Costco.

  • Eye of the Tiger The song was written in 1982 by the group Survivor, and it was the theme song for Rocky Three.

  • Title: 'Road to Tradition'
    The title is a take-off from the 2002 gangster movie 'Road to Perdition' about a hit man who is on the run with his son from dangerous people out to get them.

  • Mr. Diggs: Do I contradict myself? Very well, then, I contradict myself. Mr. Diggs and Vanessa (in unison): I am large, I contain multitudes. These lines are from Walt Whitman's poem Song of Myself, found in his 1855 book of poems Leaves of Grass.
