  • It's Time for The Big Record! and so opened every episode of the New York based music program. Sponsored by Oldsmobile, the series was hosted by singer Patti Page with Vic Schoen conducting the orchestra. Created by Lester Gottlieb, produced by Jack Philbin, Patti would welcome big name guests of the music and recording industry. Choreography was done by June Taylor and settings were designed by Gary Smith. The show was a mix of young and old performers joining together for a musical hour.moreless

    • In December 1957 the TRENDEX index said that Polly Bergen with an 18.4 Trendex was the highest of the year's new-to-TV singers, Rosemary Clooney was second with 17.1, Eddie Fisher 15.6, Pat Boone 14.3 and Gisele Mackenzie 13.3, Sinatra 12.1, Patrice Munsel 8 and Guy Mitchell 5.

    • Also billed are Johnny Mathis, Jimmie Rodgers, Della Reese, Jane Morgan, Tony Bennett and others via kinescope with 1957 record hits.

    • The Big Record was pre-empted on January 22nd, 1958 for "High Adventures with Lowell Thomas".

    • Singer Alan Dale was born Aldo Sigismondi another in a long list of Italian singers that tried to make it big in the 1950's. Unfortuntely Alan's career nose-dived after an incident in which Alan was brutally beaten, it was disclosed that the Mafia wanted to control his career, thus ending it instead.

    • This is the last full hour program, next week The Big Record becomes a half-an-hour show until it's end in June.

    • This is the first show in the new half-hour format.

    • Abbe Lane was performing in the Broadway musical "Oh, Captain!" at the time of this guest appearance.

    • This was Lizabeth Scott's first singing appearance.
