  • show Description
  • The Multi-Talented Bobby Darin . . .…took the music world by storm, in the late 50s, topping the Rock and Roll charts with his smash hits 'Mack The Knife', 'Splish Splash', and 'Beyond The Sea'. Soon, Hollywood came calling, and he swept into the movie world with his appearances in Come September, State Fair, and Hell Is For Heroes among many others, including his Oscar-nominated performance in Captain Newman, M.D.Nor was Darin a stranger to television. His first variety series – Bobby Darin And Friends premiered in 1961. He was a highly sought-after guest performer on other variety shows, such as Toast Of The Town, The Judy Garland Show, The Andy Williams Show, and This Is Tom Jones, and he guest-starred on many a drama and comedy series, over the years.Darin was riding high, on the crest of a wave of success, when he signed on with Dean Martin, in 1972, to replace Martin's show, that summer, with his own musical/variety show, originally titled The Bobby Darin Amusement Company. It quickly became a hit, and, after it's initial 7-episode run, it returned in January of the following year, with the much simpler title: The Bobby Darin Show. Darin's guest-list, over the next 13 episodes of the show included such musical luminaries as Burl Ives, Seals and Crofts, and Dusty Springfield, and comedians Redd Foxx, Arte Johnson, Phyllis Diller, and Sid Caesar.Bobby closed the 2nd season with a special 'In Concert' episode, guest starring Peggy Lee, and there was talk of picking up the show for another season. But, unfortunately it was not to be. Less than 7 months after the final episode aired, Bobby Darin died from complications during surgery to repair a defective heart valve – A tremendous talent gone, at the age of 37.moreless
