    • Clay: Well, agent Howard of the Federal Bureau of Investigations, did it not occur to you to pick up a telephone and call and ask for my blessing? Fritz: Well, I'm sorry, sir, but, Brenda and I are both adults and I (stuttering) I love you daughter. Clay: (Stands up, looking angry, then breaks into a smile.) Relax son, I'm just messin' with ya. Come on. You do hug, don't ya? I mean, you have a cat. Fritz: (Whispering in Clay's ear) That's not my cat. Clay Johnson: (Whispering back) It is now, son. And you better make that cat very happy.

    • Brenda: Momma, why are you reading yesterday's newspaper? Willie Rae: Your father has today's; I'll read that one tomorrow.

    • Flynn: Umm, who's going to interview who? Provenza: (Pulls out a coin and flips it.) Call it. Flynn: Tails. Provenza: (Grabs the coin without looking at the it.) Heads. Come on, Gabriel.

    • Dr. Leonard: So, other than early-onset menopause, getting engaged, having your parents come into town, buying a new house and being attacked with a cattle prod, then shooting and killing your assailant, there's nothing significant happening in your life? Brenda: Why do you have to say it like that?

    • Brenda: Where y'all goin'? Sanchez: Nowhere? Brenda: Has there been a homicide? Provenza: Yeah. And this one's pretty interesting, too, Chief. Dead body found inside a room that's locked from the outside. Now, inside, there are no windows and no locks. Brenda: Really. Provenza: No. Some Academy-award winning writer found dead in the Hollywood hills; probably OD'ed. Tao: (To Provenza) It was only a nomination; he didn't actually win.

    • Brenda mentions to Hawthorn that if he doesn't like the size of the elevator, he's going to like the gas chamber even less. Although in California the gas chamber is an acceptable form of execution, lethal injection is the primary method, and is the method that is used unless the gas chamber is specifically requested by the prisoner. In fact, out of the 12 people that have been executed since lethal injection was adopted by California in 1993, only one person has chosen the gas chamber.

    • This is the first epsiode in which the LAPD's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team appears. The SWAT team is believed to have originated with the LAPD under the administration of Chief Edward Davis in 1967. Assigned to the Metropolitan Division, the LAPD's tactical unit, SWAT is charged with high-risk assignments such as hostage rescues or engaging heavily armed criminals. SWAT team members have highly specialized weapons training, and many have military experience.

    Trivia (2)

    • Some of the names on the PHD's list of "people who might want to kill Chief Johnson" are those we've learned about throughout the series. They include: Joseph Dellamonte: Mentioned in Overkill Gerald Curtis: A prisoner caught by Brenda in an elaborate scheme to escape from prison in No Good Deed "Little Devil": A gang member who shot up the wrong car out of revenge in Slippin' "Pookie": A gang member who shot up the wrong car out of revenge in Slippin' One-Eight-Sevens: A local gang the squad dealt with in Slippin' and Four to Eight Alonzo and Delia Lopez: Brenda arrested Alonzo for the murder of his son-in-law, who was abusing Alonzo's daughter, in Standards and Practices. His wife, Delia, was complicit in the murder, but was not charged. Rawley: The Rawley family played a prominent role in The Other Woman, as Sammy Rawley was charged with murdering a woman he thought was his sister. Sammy's sister, Gennifer, was a severe drug addict that Sammy believed was destroying the rest of his family, therefore, he wanted to stop her from causing more harm. Carlos and Miguel Torres: Brenda, along with the entire PHD, especially Sanchez, was able to arrest Carlos for the murder of two gang members, one of whom was Carlos' nephew. His son Miguel was arrested for, among other things, gang activity, which was what Carlos was desperately trying to prevent in Four to Eight.

    • The scene in Brenda's office where Taylor walks in on Tao playing the tape for the team was filmed the same day as the TV Guide online webchat, June 7, 2007. During the webchat, Michael Paul Chan was asked if he is as technical as Lt. Tao. He said that when he was handed the digital recorder for the scene, he thought it was a cell phone.

    • Flynn: We're gonna need a bigger board. This line seems to be a popular take on the famous line from the 1975 movie Jaws in which a fishing boat owner is told "you're gonna need a bigger boat" after seeing the immense size of the great white shark the boat crew is trying to capture.
