  • Quotes (3)

    • Dr. Foster: My father said no matter how dumb the dealer looks, always cut the cards.

    • Dr. Foster: Do you play straight partners, cutthroat, or Double Deck Auction with a widow? Russell: Straight partners! Dr. Foster: Also, do you use standard scoring or the Midwest check system? Homer: Just what exactly IS the Midwest check system?

    • Homer: You know, Russell, this reminds of the days when we used to go down to the baseball DIAMOND. Russell: Yeah, I remember those days..but, sometimes it would rain and we'd have to stay in the CLUBhouse. Homer: You know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna lead with clubs! Russell: Good play! (Cliff plays his King, and Russell plays the Ace.) Homer: You had the Ace? Russell: Dr. Foster, if you'll throw your card, I can collect this trick! Dr. Foster: That may be difficult to do, Mr. Huxtable Senior...since you threw your Ace in my face, I may have to bump your rump with my trump!

    Notes (2)

    • For his work in this episode, Roscoe Lee Browne won the Emmy as Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.

    • Dr. Foster was later a recurring character on A Different World.

    Trivia (2)

    • Since Russell, Cliff & Claire are all Hillman graduates and Russell wasinformed of Cliff's antics at school, shouldn't Russell already know Dr. Foster?

    • Goof: At the end of Pinochle, Dr. Foster mentions the rule of the rubbing of the head if all tricks are taken, and Russell says there is still one trick left. However, before Cliff had said that after a hand had been won the score was now tied which meant Russell and Homer had to have taken at least one.
