    • Paul: This is a bad idea.
Mac: Correction. This is a good idea with bad possibilities.
      Paul: What does that even...?
Mac: Paul. Sooner or later you'll realize that there's a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.

    • Mac: Are we about to get assassinated? Because I'm not ready to die. I haven't decided what my last words will be yet.

    • Anna: Fuck off, Paul. How we came from the same egg is a mystery to me.
Paul: Womb. We came out of the same womb. Egg, and we'd be identical twins. There are certain differences between us if you hadn't noticed.
      Anna: Huh, yeah, you're retarded.

    • Paul: I'm scared, Mac.
Mac: You're scared? My only friend is either a lunatic or Heather Langenkamp. I'm petrified.

    • Neil: We can be safe here. It's non-negotiable.
Helen: We're not here to protect the future, Neil. Sarah was the seer. Her inevitability isn't ours. We take every challenge...
Neil: If it comes. I know that. What if the challenge is too great? If the Fades do break through?
Helen: Then you're right. We'll be fucked. Does that make you feel better?
Neil: I don't like it when you swear.

    • Neil: Look, when people die, they go up or they stay here. Some go up, some stay here. These are those that stay here. We call them "the Fades."
      Paul: They're just... trapped here.
Neil: If they don't ascend, yeah.
Paul: So these are bad people?
Neil: Good, bad, why people believe death is somehow fair. Death is random, same as life is. Life is famine. Illness. Shittiness. Death is similarly crap.

    • Paul: Yeah, that's right, kid, I'm a Ghostbuster.
Neil: Yeah, that's right, kid, I'm a Ghostbuster.
Paul: And none of this... none of this stuff's in my head?
      Neil: Ghostbuster's honor.

    • Jay: You've got nice eyes. In this light.
      Paul: Yeah?
      Jay: I'd better go.
      Paul: All right.
      Jay: See you.
Paul: You got nice eyes too!
      Jay: I know.

    Allusions (21)

    • Mac: Which makes my best friend Indiana Jones. Which is good, because I always wanted to be Short Round in The Temple of Doom. Or Marion Ravenwood from Raiders.
Referencing the first two movies in the Indiana Jones franchise. The first movie is Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), and Marion Ravenwood is the female love interest to the main character, Indiana Jones, and also appears in the fourth movie. Short Round is Indiana's sidekick in the second movie, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), which is a prequel to the first movie.

    • Mac: Heather Langenkamp from Nightmare on Elm Street.
Referencing the Wes Craven horror movie series A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984 onwards), starring Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger, who terrorizes a small town's residents in their nightmares. The first movie was remade in 2010.

    • Paul: You... some sort of... Ghostbuster?
Referencing the hit 1984 comedy movie Ghostbusters starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson as amateur ghost hunters who go into business exorcising ghosts and call themselves "The Ghostbusters." The movie spawned a sequel, video games, comic books, and an animated series.

    • Mac: Admittedly, in the isolated incidents they show in the film, Bruce Willis could have been a ghost for those.
Referencing the 1999 thriller, The Sixth Sense, where Bruce Willis plays Dr. Malcolm Crowe, a child psychologist who works with a nine-year-old child who claims that he can see dead people. Mac's statement refers to the twist ending, where it is revealed that Crowe is also a ghost.

    • Mac: Nano nano.
Referencing the 1978-1982 ABC sitcom, Mork & Mindy, which starred Robin Williams as Mork, an alien from the planet Ork. He visits Earth and stays, ending up eventually marrying Mindy. "Nano nano" is his planet's way of saying hello.

    • Mac: And as Willy Wonka told us all, sex is life.
Referencing the fictional candy manufacturer created by Roald Dahl in 1964 in the novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The eccentric candymaker has since been the subject of a sequel novel and two movies, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory (1971, starring Gene Wilder) and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005, starring Johnny Depp).

    • Mac: Your friend is quite the mercenary. I wonder if he really cares about anything. Or anybody.
Referencing Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977), specifically a line spoken by Leia to Luke, concerning smuggler Han Solo.

    • Paul: Has anyone ever told you you talk like Gollum sometimes?
Referencing the corrupted hobbit created by J.R.R. Tolkien for his literary works The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogy. Originally Sméagol, the hobbit was transformed by the influence of the One Ring. He typically talks about himself in the third person and lusts for the return of "his precious."
