Peyton Place was originally a novel published in the 1950s but set in the 1930s. It was made into a theatrical film in 1957, with a sequel made in 1961. It was adapted as a series in the 1960s, but set during current day, and it was not a continuation of the movies. It was the first night-time soap, and aired for several nights in a row.
