  • This episode has almost all what it takes to be a smash hit, but the scene about the flambĂ© disaster wasn't believable enough.

  • It put me on the edge of my seat because of the fire. The commercial breaks were painful to wait through.

    • (after the whole kitchen is burned to a crisp) Will: MAMA, NO!!!

    • (with Will in a headlock) Will: Uncle Phil, are you gonna let me go anytime soon? Uncle Phil (happily): No Will. Will: That's cool.

    Trivia (5)

    • Will closes a door between the kitchen and the living room. This is the first episode that this door is shown or used.

    • Just before the flambe ignites, Will is sitting with his back to the pan. When the flame erupts, it appears to arc towards Will's back! The shot cuts just as Will is jumping away and a long shot is injected of Will standing, trying to fan out the flames afterwards.

    • Goof: The entire time the ignited flambe flame is shooting straight up into the air, you can plainly hear the sound of the gas injected burner, ala Bunsen, that is fueling the pyrotechnics for the sequence.

    • Goof: Right before Will pours the liquid into the pot, you can plainly see a fire extinguisher on the counter behind him. It's gone when the fire is actually burning.

    • Goof: When the pot catches on fire, it doesn't trigger the smoke alarm, but the stove catching on fire does.

    Allusions (3)

    • The board game Carlton plays at his Young Republican Camp is the popular board game Monopoly.

    • When Will realizes the fire in the kitchen is out of control, he cries, Auntie Emm, Auntie Emm. This is an allusion to the movie The Wizard of Oz. Dorothy cries this when she is afraid of the tornado.

    • The title of this episode is the same as the Talking Heads song entitled Burning Down the House.
