  • Episode Description
  • One minute before airtime and Jack can't find his pants. Bob Hope opens with a monologue while holding Jack's slacks. He goes through his wallet, but his birthday has been erased from his driver's license. Jack storms on wearing Don's huge pants. They exchange jokes before Jack orders Don to come out; he's wearing Jack's tiny pants. The Sportsmen Quartet, in native costume, open the jungle sketch. Jack and Bob play African explorers who are attacked by cannibals and thrown into a huge stew pot. After much ad-libbing by Hope and breaking up by Benny, the natives are unable to start the fire. Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis run in with a match.moreless

    • (standing in cannibal's cooking pot, native says something as he shoves a cucumber into Jack's mouth) Jack: What did he say? Bob: It's National Pickle Week. Jack: Say Clyde, (looking at Bob) is your nose gherkin or dill? Bob: In a minute it's going to be chow-chow. (to audience) That's the line they gave me: chow-chow. Jack: Better than what you gave me on your show, brother!

    • Bob: (examining the pants he stole from Jack) Brooks Brothers. Not made by 'em. Worn by 'em.

    Notes (3)

    • The business with Bob Hope stealing Jack's pants and Jack wearing Don's was reastaged on the Phil Silver Show episode airing 10/9/1962.

    • This episode ran too long for end credits. In his closing comments, Jack delivers the final word of his last joke when the network cuts to the CBS Eye slide.

    • This episode was aired live from CBS Television City in Hollywood.

    Trivia (1)

    • In the epilogue, Jack tells the audience they rehearsed that sketch eight times and Bob changed the jokes each time.
