  • AMC's crime drama is based on the popular Danish series called Forbrydelsen. Season one and two follows three different subplots all linked to the single murder of Rosie Larsen. Season 3 picks up a year after the close of the Rosie Larsen case. Sarah Linden is no longer a detective, she has a boyfriend, and lives and works on Vashon Island at the ferries for minimum wage. She is happy and has stopped smoking but her son lives in Chicago with his father and she won't visit him. Ex-partner Stephen Holder has moved on and has a new partner. He's calmer and wears suits now. His diet has improved, he's dating an assistant district attorney and he's studying for the sergeant’s exam. He starts out looking for a runaway girl but discovers a grisly string of murders. His case leads to one of Linden's previous murder investigations - the one that drove her into the hospital - and, in turn, draws Linden back into the detective game. The first three seasons of The Killing aired on AMC on Sundays at 9:00 p.m. Soon after the end of season three, it was announced that Nextflix ordered a six episode fourth season to air starting August 1, 2014.moreless

    • (Holder questioning Linden about Cory Peterson)
Holder: Oh snap, Linden rocked a booty call. (Linden cracks a smile) Dial 1-900-LINDEN.
Linden: That's not even enough numbers.

    • Holder: (enters the room to interrogate Alexi who's falen asleep with his head on the table while he waits) Rise and shine princess. What, you want room service? Eggs over easy? Buttered toast? Get up.
      Alexi: I want a soda.
Holder: You don't get a soda, you don't get shit. Hell you don't get to sit on that chair. Get up. Get up. (throws Alexi's chair out of the room) You and me. We're going to have a little convo about your girlfriend Rosie.

    • Holder: (Jasper spots Holder and Linden inside his lavish house) Go on, take us on the tour, son.
Jasper: As long as I don't end up a gimp like that politician guy.
Holder: Nah, you ain't worth shooting. Just have a few questions about you and Rosie. See, some things just don't add up about you and her. You weren't the only one sticking it to her. Oh, but you had to know that right? She was a pro... Oh snap, you didn't know? I guess you were like her... charity case.
Jasper: Whatever. As usual, you don't have a clue.
Linden: Please bestow upon us your wisdom.

    • Jasper: Rosie was a dork, a total virgin.
Holder: Yeah right, 'cause she wouldn't give it to ya, she's a virgin.
Jasper: (Commenting on Holder's slang) Yeah, anyone ever tell you you're white?

    • Skinner: This case is going to be solved with good solid police work, not some PhD’s half-baked psychological profile…(pretends he is a profiler) “well, you know, based on the nature of the wounds, we can tell that he’s angry”. No shit - he’s angry.

    • Linden: Where’s Reddick?
Holder: Punched out. Get his beauty sleep. Me, I’m already beautiful, so… (puts his arms in the air as Linden smiles)

    • Holder: (forgetting it's Valentine's Day)Happy V-day baby. But you know I celebrate it on the 15th, 'cause it's not so commercial, and what not. But I thought I told you that. If I didn’t, then that’s on me, my bad.

    • Linden: It’s okay, I don't need a table.
Holder: I can confirm that. Ninety-nine percent of the times I’ve seen Linden eat, it’s been in a car.

    Trivia (11)

    • Richard Harmon (Jasper Ames), Liam James (Jack), Kacey Rohl (Sterling Fitch), Katie Findlay (Rosie Larson) have all previously guest starred on Fringe, which is also shot in Vancouver.

    • The animal Sarah Linden finds dead on the water's edge during her jog is a seal. It did not seem to have any fur. Perhaps someone had skinned it.

    • When Linden is watching the video of Rosie in the office and talking to Jack, she pauses the video on Rosie with her head turned and a closed smile. When the camera shot goes back on the frozen screen, the scene is Rosie facing front with a full smile, which is the scene prior to the one where Linden paused the film.

    • Goof: When Stan Larsen agrees to make his sons a dinner of chocolate chip pancakes, he tells son Tom to get him an egg and some milk. The next thing we see is Stan already pouring the milk as son Tom arrives from the refrigerator with only an egg.

    • Goof: The end of Bennet Ahmed's letter to Rosie reads "Whatever the mood or the circumstance, the essence of it's quality may linger in the silence that follows. It is a soundless echo." He misspelled the possessive pronoun "its", which would be unusual for an English teacher. It's is a contraction for "it is" or "it has".

    • Goof: Linden follows Holder and his sponsor Gil to the Narcotics Anonymous meeting and watches as they exit Gil's car. As they do so, we can see that the tail lights and the backup lights are on. The only time a car's backup lights are on is when the car is in reverse gear so it would seem Gil put the car in reverse instead of park before he turned the car ignition off. Being on a slight incline and without being in park, the car could have rolled backwards.

    • When Sarah runs along the waterfront and hears a ferry boat's horn she sees a nearby signboard that displays the vessels' names, Adela and Veena. Veena Sud is the developer and executive producer of The Killing.

    • The actress who plays "Aleena Drizocki," the escort who visits Holder at the end of the episode played "Meg" in Veronica Mars, another TV show centered around a murder mystery.

The movie title, Serenity, refers to the name of the fictional spaceship that appears in Joss Whedon's 2002 Firefly television series and the subsequent movie.

    • Caroline Swift: "Serenity" mm. Sounds like a stripper's name. This is an allusion to the short lived television science fiction series Firefly created by Joss Whedon that premiered in September 2002. Jewel Staite who plays Caroline Swift was a co-star in the series playing Kaylee, an engineer on the Firefly-class space vessel Serenity.
