  • Episode Description
  • Lucy drives Viv crazy trying to identify a mystery sound in a radio station contest. She determines it's a refrigerator shutting down (after destroying theirs) and gets to be a disc jockey for a day. She entertains the masses with ten second songs, commercials played at slow speed, and bizarre sound effects. The radio station may not survive her debut in broadcasting.

  • Notes (4)

    • This episode was not intended to be the season finale, Lucy the Stockholder was. It was shot in late September 1964 and was supposed to air in the middle of the season. It kept getting pre-empted so it ended up being the Season 3 finale.

    • The closing scene for this episode (Lucy crying amid the radio station destruction) was featured as part of the opening credit sequence beginning in Season 4.

    • The Lucy Show was replaced for the summer (June-September of this year) by Vacation Playhouse. This series was a catch-all anthology of pilots for unsold comedy series.

    • This is the last episode featuring Vivian Vance as a regular. She had settled into a happily married life in New England and had grown weary of the constant cross-country commute. Lucille Ball is said to have regretted her departure for the rest of her life. (They obviously had no long-term hard feelings at Viv makes occasional visits in the future.) Beginning next season, Lucy and Mr. Mooney are relocated to California.

    Trivia (2)

    • WLDJ is a one-man radio station with one sponsor: Spangle soda pop.

    • While reading a sports report on the air, Lucy announces that Maury Thompson is at bat. Maury was a regular director on The Lucy Show.
