The Newsroom Has Been Renewed for Season 3, According to Jeff Daniels
HBO's The Newsroom, which is currently seven episodes into its nine-episode second season, has been renewed for Season 3, at least according to series star Jeff Daniels:
The actor tweeted as much on Tuesday night, saying, "It's official. #Newsroom coming back for a Season 3." And while we appreciate his use of the capital S as per TV.com style, HBO still hasn't confirmed the news.
I obviously don't work for HBO, and God knows that if I was in charge of renewing shows, we'd all probably still be watching the crew of Battlestar Galactica attempt to build a new life on Earth, but I think it would be very off-base to not renew The Newsroom at this point. The series has enjoyed a jump in quality in Season 2—due in large part, I like to think, to its new title sequence and Olivia Munn continuing to be fantastic. Maggie's hideous post-Africa hair aside, I don't think you'll find many people who don't consider Season 2 to be a major step up from Season 1.
Let's be frank for a second: Aaron Sorkin is a notoriously busy guy. And he's a notoriously busy guy who writes every episode of The Newsroom with only a little bit of help from his staff. Give him some time to write the new Steve Jobs movie that he's been attached to forever, and then Season 3 of The Newsroom will come.
