  • Episode Description
  • It's time for the finalists to face the camera for their first cooking demonstrations. Adding to the tension is guest judge Alton Brown, who brings both culinary and filmmaking skills to the competition. For the first challenge, the finalists must present a dish made of three randomly selected ingredients. Later, they face their worst nightmare: cooking with the ingredient they least like to use. This time, it's a five minute demonstration of a dish centered around the ingredient.moreless

  • Trivia & Quotes
  • Quotes (5)

    • Alton: (At the end of the diasterous five-minute demos) Shall we send them all home and start over?

    • Bob: (About Amy's performance in the five-minute demo) You out-Jagged Jag on the complexity of the dish, and out-Pauled Paul on the "frantic-ness" with which you tried to execute it. It was like, whoa! She's channeling everyone but Amy.

    • Alton: (To Rory) At what point exactly did you realize you were no longer in control of the aircraft?

    • Bob: (Summing up the five minute demos) Today was a giant step backwards. I think it left us wondering, do we actually have a star here?

    • Bob: (As Rory describes the components of goat cheese) Nothing perks up your appetite like hearing about the stomach of goats.

    Notes (4)

    • Culinary Points of View of the Final Four Amy: Gourmet Next Door Paul: Party Food on a Budget Rory: Real Food for Real People Jag: Latino Fusion

    • Challenge #10: Three Ingredients (On-Camera Demo) Each finalist must select at random one protein, one vegetable and one additional item on which they must base a dish. Following preparation, each chef must "sell" their dish in a three-minute demonstration, with no camera stops. Afterward Alton Brown provides feedback. Ingredients Rory: Minute steak, radishes, prunes Jag: Shrimp, snap peas, corn flakes Paul: Calamari, fennel, persimmons Amy: Veal, oyster mushrooms, popcorn Adrien: Flounder, japanese eggplant, peanut butter

    • Challenge #11: Least Favorite Ingredient (On-Camera Demo) The finalists must design a dish that will glorify their least favorite ingredient, to be presented in a five-minute on-camera demo. The script included four items of information, and a clear beginning/middle/end. Ingredients Amy: Bok choy Jag: Tofu Paul: Lima beans Rory: Goat cheese Adrien: Baby corn Winner: the judges determined no winner could be selected, but noted Paul showed the greatest improvement from the first to second demonstration, saving him from elimination.

    • Eliminated: Adrien
