  • Season Premiere. The third season premiere of The Next Food Network Star introduces eleven new contestants and many new challenges! Guest Chefs Bobby Flay (Throwdown with Bobby Flay), Duff Goldman (Ace of Cakes) and Robert Irvine (Dinner Impossible) join the finalists, presenting their first challenges.The action begins after a greeting from Emeril Lagasse (Emeril Live). The finalists gather in Food Network Studio A, when the they face their first challenge: prepare an original dish to be presented at a dinner for the selection committee. The next day, the heat is on when the finalists meet their first guest chef: Duff Goldman, who challenges them to decorate a wedding cake, something most of them have never done. But things look impossible when Guest Chef Robert Irvine prsents the day's second challenge. This season's Judges Bob Tuschman and Susie Fogelson are joined by Guest Judge Bobby Flay as members of the selection committee for the first round of challenges.moreless

    • Challenge #1: Potluck Dinner Finalists selected a course at random, and were given one hour to prepare a dish that best represented their cooking style, then present it to the judges in one minute.     • Challenge #2: Wedding Cake Finalists met with cake expert Duff Goldman, who gave them a short briefing on handling fondant before challenging them to decorate a three-tier wedding cake in 90 minutes. Most Successful: Amy Least Successful: Vivien, Rory

    Trivia (2)

    • The wedding cake and wedding reception challenges took place at New York's Roosevelt Hotel on Madison Ave. Named for President Theodore Roosevelt, the hotel opened in 1924. The Roosevelt was recently restored, marrying modern hotel amenities with traditional Greek revival architecture.

    • This is Rory Schepisi's second appearance on a reality television program. She previously appeared on Country Music Television's Popularity Contest. In the program, 10 city-dwellers were relocated to the small town of Vega, TX. Although Rory came in second in the contest, she became engaged to a local resident and moved from New Jersey to Vega permanently.
