  • As someone who has seen every episode and who has been a fan from the very beginning, I can tell you with good reason that this is one of their best.

  • Trivia & Quotes
  • Quotes (23)

    • Michael: This next award is going out to our own little Pam Beesly. I think we all know what award Pam is gonna be getting this year... it is the Whitest Sneakers Award, because she always has the whitest tennis shoes on! Get on down here! Pam Beesly, ladies and gentlemen! Pam: [very drunk] I have so many people to thank for this award! Okay, first off, my Keds, because I couldn't have done it without them. Let's give Michael a round of applause for MC-ing tonight, because this is a lot harder than it looks. [applause] Pam: And also because of Dwight too. [silence] Pam: Um, so. Finally, I wanna thank God, because God gave me this Dundie. And I feel God in this Chili's tonight. [pauses] Pam: WOO!

    • Chili's Manager: We have a strict policy here not to overserve. Apparently this young woman was sneaking drinks off other people's tables. I Xeroxed her driver's license, and she is not welcome at this restaurant chain ever again.

    • Michael: And the Tightass Award goes to Angela. Not only because she is everybody's favorite stickler, but because she has a great caboose. So come on down. Angela: No.

    • Dwight: So, what's the joke? You're not perfect either. Pam: We're not laughing at you, Dwight. Dwight: So who are we laughing at? Pam: Um, just something somebody wrote. Dwight: Who, Dave Barry? Kelly: [laughs] No, uh, just something that was written on the ladies' room wall. Dwight: What is it? Who wrote it? Pam: Um, it's kinda private. Phyllis: [whispers] It's about Michael. Dwight: That is defacement of company property, so you'd better tell me. Kelly, if you tell me, you'll be punished less. Pam: [laughing] Okay, now I'm laughing at you.

    • Michael: Was this year’s Dundies a success? Well, let’s see, I made Pam laugh so hard, that she fell out of her chair, and she almost broke her neck. So I killed, almost.

    Notes (11)

    • The German episode title is "Wer bekommt den Dundie?", meaning "Who Gets the Dundie?". The French title is "La Remise des prix", meaning "Giving Out Prizes". The Italian title is "La premiazione", meaning "The Awards". The Spanish title is "Los premios Dundies", an exact translation.

    • Music: "Mambo No. 5" by Lou Bega; "O.P.P." by Naughty By Nature; instrumental cover version of "You Sexy Thing" by Hot Chocolate; "Tiny Dancer" by Elton John; "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes

    • Deleted Scene: Toby confronts Michael on Ryan's behalf about how the "Hottest in the Office" award made the temp uncomfortable. Michael, characteristically, disregards this.

    • This was one of six episodes that was submitted to Emmy voters for Best Comedy consideration, which they went on to win. The other five were "Booze Cruise", "Christmas Party", "The Injury", "The Secret", and "Valentine's Day."

    • Since Jenna Fischer doesn't drink much in real life, B.J. Novak took her out so she could get drunk while Novak described to her how she was behaving and how it didn't match her own perception. She drew upon this experience for her performance.

    Trivia (2)

    • Michael says in this episode that Meredith hasn't won a Dundie but back in "The Alliance" Dwight is going through Meredith's stats and says "Awards: Multiple Dundies".

    • When Pam is watching tapes of prior years' Dundie Awards, one of Michael's performances is a version of "Mambo Number Five" by Lou Bega. This tune will also serve as Michael's cellphone ringtone in later episodes.

    Allusions (4)

    • Michael gives Oscar the 'Show Me the Money' award, named after the most infamous line from the 1996 film Jerry Maguire.

    • Michael says, "Hey, hey, hey! It's Fat Halpert!", impersonating Bill Cosby as the voice of Fat Albert from Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids. The line that Michael uses is similar to the cartoon character's opening line during the theme song of the cartoon.

    • While practicing for the Dundies, Michael dons his turban and notes that the act is "loosely based" on Johnny Carson's Carnac the Magnificant bit. However, Michael's act is pretty much an exact copy of that bit, where Carson would hold the envelope to his turban and recite the punchline to the joke before opening the envelope and revealing what the joke actually was.

    • Songs that Michael parodies at the Dundies include Elton John's "Tiny Dancer" (Michael sings, "You have won a tiny Dundie...") and Naughty by Nature's "O.P.P." ("You down with the Dundies?")
