  • The Surreal Life is back for a fifth season with a new house and a new bunch of celebrities. “Surreal Life Security”, Andy Dick meets each celeb at the door and performs a security check before allowing them to enter the house. The pressure gets to Andy as he snaps and calls it quits before the last cast member arrives. Surprise! It’s baseball bad boy Jose Canseco! Rounding out the rest of this season’s cast are motocross superstar Carey Hart, self-proclaimed first ever supermodel Janice Dickinson, Sandi Denton a.k.a. Pepa from the hit rap trio Salt N’ Pepa, supermodel Carpice, comedic actor Bronson Pinchot from Perfect Strangers, and The Apprentice villainess and beauty queen Omarosa Manigault Stalworth. • Janice: Pepa is Pepa. You know, I’m dying to get into her pants. That’s my quest.

    • Janice: (About Bronson) He was creepy! He was perverted! I’d rather sleep with a homeless person!

    • Omarosa: (About Janice) I am so excited there is a bigger drama queen in this house than me.

    • Casey: It’s definitely a circus – there are plenty of clowns lying around.

    • Bronson: I think Janice’s kinda cooky. Kinda wacky and weird. I like her.

    Notes (3)

    • Janice threatens to quit the show after Bronson "gropes" her. However, with a little talk from Pepa, the dramatic model gets back into the series – her opinion of Bronson though, does not change.

    • This season, to continue with the "circus freaks" theme, the celebrities have a pet: a three-legged dog named Lucky. Caprice takes a special liking to the dog, while most of the other housemates think the dog is disgusting and scary-looking.

    • The producers of this season of The Surreal Life kept Jose Conseco's identity a secret from the first six celebrities. It was not until the newspaper came that the Surreal Lifers discovered that Jose would be staying with them. The newspaper also worked at making the housemates nervous, listing all of Jose's convictions and arrests.

    Trivia (1)

    • After seeing this episode, Entertainment Weekly’s Alynda Wheat gave it (and the series) an A-, saying that “on balance, this may be the most supreme Surreal yet.”

    Allusions (3)

    • Near the pool is a sign that says “No Lifeguard on Duty.” This could be an allusion to Janice’s book No Lifeguard on Duty: The Accidental Life of the World's First Supermodel, which tells the story of her life. This book is referenced several times throughout the episode – the cover is shown in the quickie biography of Janice in the beginning of the episode, and Andy mentions that he read it. He quotes the book, saying that “everything is fake and I am perfect.”

    • Bronson says, “Omarosa comes in ready to be on Dallas or Dynasty or something, with her heels and her suit...” Dallas and Dynasty are older television series from the 1980’s. Both were primetime soap operas, and both featured female characters who wore elegant white suits, tall high heels, and hats, much like Omarosa at the beginning of this episode.

    • In the beginning of this episode, Andy likens Omarosa’s name to that of Cher, in that both women choose to only include their first name – not their last. Cher, the popular singer and movie star, dropped her last name when she became famous. Omarosa’s former last name, used on The Apprentice and other series in which she appeared, was Manigualt-Stalworth.
