A perfect example of the historical inaccuracies that make this show such a camp classic.
Don't get me wrong! I think Whit Bissel was a great character actor. Any part he played, whether a mad scientist ("I Was A Teenage Werewolf") or a concerned fellow passenger ("Airport," 1969), he gave it the proverbial 110%. Still, the show's writers should have done a little more research. If only through a bi-lingual dictionary! "Kirk" is the Scottish pronounciation of "church," for which the proper French synonym is "eglise." So, unless one of the general's ancestors was a Scotsman who fled to France, following the failed Jacobite Rebellion of 1745 (and he only partly-Gallicized his surname),... Well, you get the idea.moreless
