  • Trivia & Quotes
  • Quotes (5)

    • (Opening Narration) Narrator: Confidential personnel file on Salvadore Ross. Personality: a volatile mixture of fury and frustration. Distinguishing physical characteristic: a badly-broken hand which will require emergency treatment at the nearest hospital. Ambition: shows great determination toward self-improvement. Estimate of potential success: a sure bet for a listing in Who's Who--in the Twilight Zone.

    • Old Man: Hurt your hand? Salvadore Ross: No, I'm just here for a good night's sleep.

    • Salvadore Ross: You're saying you have it worse just because of a cold? Old Man: To someone as young as you it's just a cold, for someone my age it can easily become pnuemonia.

    • Salvadore Ross: I'm looking for compassion. Mr. Maitland: Compassion? I sold it to you yesterday. {Mr. Maitland shoots Salvadore Ross}

    • (Closing Narration) Narrator: The Salvadore Ross program for self-improvement. The all-in-one, sure-fire success course that lets you lick the bully, learn the language, dance the tango and anything else you want to do--or think you want to do. Money-back guarantee. Offer limited to... the Twilight Zone.

    Notes (2)

    • Sci-Fi Channel's cut, as of 2004, of this episode edits out at least one important plot point scene from this episode: when Sal buys Mr. Maitland's compassion. This removes a lot of the irony from the finale by making the revelation too abrupt.

    • This episode is based on the short story "The Self-Improvement of Salvadore Ross" by Henry Slesar. This story was first published in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction (May, 1961).
