  • show Description
  • Stand-up comedienne Thea Vidale stars as Thea Turrell, a widowed mother of four who works in a Houston supermarketby day and runs a one-chair beauty salon on the corner of her porch in the evenings. Vidale was nominated for a People's Choice Award as Favorite Female In A New Series for her portrayal of the no-nonsense Thea. The series was cancelled shortly after only one season due to low ratings on the ABC network. Thea aired on BET in reruns during the early and mid 1990'smoreless

  • Trivia & Quotes
  • Notes (3)

    • Wesley Jonathan guest starred in the "Million Boy March" episode of "Moesha," which coincidentally stars Brandy, Yvette Wilson, Marcus T. Paulk, and Countess Vaughn, who are also in this episode.

    • Countess Vaughn and Marcus T. Paulk would later star on the UPN sitcom, "Moesha" with Brandy and Yvette Wilson. Countess Vaughn and Yvette Wilson also starred on the "Moesha" spin-off, "The Parkers."

    • Low ratings did not get this series (and Me and The Boys) cancelled. It was one of ABC's highest rated new series. A Black show will generally get cancelled in favor of a low rated yet highly regarded White series. This is what really happened to Thea and later to Sister, Sister, Family Matters and The Hughleys. The other reason was that ABC wanted more control over their shows as well, which is why Phemon with Judith Light was cancelled during the same year.

    Trivia (5)

    • A promo photo featured Charmin Lee as another daughter. However when this pilot aired she was nowhere to be found.

    • Most of the guest stars would be reunited with Brandy on Moesha a few months later.

    • Omar Gooding and Jason Weaver would work together on the WB's Smart Guy four years later.

    • Omar Gooding was a cast member of Hangin With Mr. Cooper at the time this episode aired.

    • While many mourned the cancellation of the series, most of the cast and crew went to work on Moesha. While Cleavant Derricks went on to fame with Sliders.
