  • show Description
  • Welcome to the Time Squad guide at TV.com. Time Squad is one of Cartoon Network's original animated series and is part of the collection known as Cartoon Cartoons. First Telecast: June 8, 2001 Last Telecast: November 26, 2003. We start every episode in a satellite that orbits the earth in the year 100 million. Buff time cop, Buck Tuddrussel; cranky, yet sophisticated robot, the Larry 3000; and 8-year-old orphan boy, Otto Osworth; three of the most unlikely characters to become a trio join together in that satellite to go on whatever mission through history they get, to make sure everything happens the right way, while making it through mishaps on the satellite in between missions. They go though it all: from Eli Whitney's flesh eating robots to the accidental downgrade of Larry, but they're always ready for the sudden blaze of the History Instability Alarm and they'll do anything to "enforce the past to protect the future". Characters Buck Tuddrussel- Tuddrussel is the main time cop of the squad, and not a very good one at that. He's known to not be very bright, and always seems to think that violence is the answer to everything. He often has to be pointed in the right direction by his partner robot, Larry, and his kidnapped (adopted) accomplice, Otto. And he doesn't know anything about history! When he's not on a mission, he enjoys practicing his sharp shooting, reading his laser magazines, and weight lifting. The Larry 3000- Tuddrussel's partner. Larry is the one who operates the ins and outs of the Time Squad satellite and hates every moment of it. He often has to stop Tuddrussel from doing anything stupid, which is often. He'd gladly work for Tuddrussel if he weren't such a barbaric idiot. He was originally designed to assist kings and diplomats, but due to becoming "obsolete" his purpose was reassigned to Time Squad and got stuck with with Tuddrussel. When he's not on a mission, he enjoys golfing, knitting, and any other civilized hobby--you name it! He doesn't know anything about history either! Otto Osworth- An orphaned boy genius who talked Tuddrussel and Larry into abducting him from his abusive orphanage in the 21st century, using the fact that he knew so much about history and could easily talk to people. Otto works hard, and plays hard to work with the Time Squad to fix the one thing he cared about the most while growing up in the orphanage, history! Very clever, and always trying to do what's right, Otto is constantly trying to work out problems for both historical figures and his strange "guardians" have created for themselves. Whenever they get a mission he's always there to tell what the person from history's famous for. He's also there when Tuddrussel and/or Larry do something he knows is wrong! When he's not on a mission, he enjoys playing with what ever toy, game, or puzzle based on famous people or moments in history he can get his hands on.moreless

    • Tuddrussel: Check it out. (pulls out old slingshot and starts playing with it) David's slingshot. Otto: The how did he defeat Golith? Tuddrussel: Do what now? (he accidentally lets the stone in the slingshot fly, which hits Larry offscreen)

    • Tudrussel: *Wooden teeth in mouth* Check it out! George Washington's actual wooden teeth! Otto: Ewww...wait, didn't he need those? Larry: I tried to stop him...

    • *As they appear from the station* Tudrussel: YAHH!!! IT'S GO TIME! *Rushes off screen. Sounds of pummeling here* Larry: *Goes up to Tudrussel* Officer... Tudrussel: Hmm? *Turns to Larry* Larry: You're beating up a tree *Screen extends to show beatened up tree* Tudrussel: Correction. *Chops off branch* One dead tree

    • Farmer (to Otto): What are you, some kind of flesh-eating robot lover? Otto: Larry's not a flesh-eater (picks up Larry's head): Look, he's got no teeth. Larry (acting like a drunkard): I'm OK to drive. (chuckles): Just help me to the car.

    • from "Eli Whitney's Flesh Eating Mistake" Otto: We've got work to do. Let's go! [leaves Eli inventitorial building then notices Tuddrussel and Larry arent budging; anoyed] It's "go time".

    • from "Eli Whitney's Flesh Eating Mistake" Otto: Mr. Whitney, why did you invent an army of flesh eating robots? Eli: I wanted to invent something to help mankind. Otto: And how exactly does that help? Eli: I guess I never realy thought of that.

    • from "Eli Whitney's Flesh Eating Mistake" [Tuddrussel and Larry appear in Otto's bedroom] Tuddrussel: You want some of me? You come on! Get some! Who want's it? Let's go, baby! It is Go Time! Larry: There's nobody here! You idiot! I told you those coordinates where wrong! Tuddrussel: Hey! Do you always have to cridisise? I mean, can't you be more constructive for once? Otto: [shaking under his covers, scared] Uh, hello? [Tuddrussel and Larry finally realise Otto's there] Tuddrussel: [points his laser at him]FREESE, MISTER! Officer Buck Tuddrussel, [flashes badge] Time Squad! Otto: I know. I read that on your badge. Tuddrussel: [totaly lost, puts badge and laser away] Uh, right.

    • Larry: (about Confucius' book) I've seen dictionaries with less words then that!

    Notes (45)

    • The voice of Eli Whitney also plays the voice of SpongeBob from Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants.

    • This episode is the series premiere.

    • Larry 3000's voice actor is the famed Mark Hamill, who's famous for doing Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy.

    • "Never Look a Trojan in the Gift Horse" is the first sight of the History Instability Alarm.

    • This episode doesn't have the opening theme song. Instead, it just has a title card that has the show's name and the credit "Created by Dave Wasson". In fact, the first episode with the actual opening theme (the first one where it's a clip show on a background of black and green historic dates) is The Island of Dr. Freud/Daddio Da Vinci.

    • "Blackbeard, Warm Heart" is the first, and not the last, appearence of Blackbeard.

    • Otto changed story when he gave coffe to Sons of Liberty, historically, chocolate's drink was what replaced tea during revolution, because Americans had not to pay for import chocolate from South America. Otto should have gave them chocolate.

    • This is the first and only half-hour episode consisting of three stories rather than two.

    Trivia (48)

    • At the end of Eli Whitney's Flesh Eating Mistake, Larry can be seen damaged, although, earlier, he had not been injured at all by the flesh-eating robots, besides losing his head momentarliy.

    • What I meant to say is: If you look closely when Tuddrussel says, "Hey! You watch who you're callin' a robot lover!" and Tuddrussel has Larry's body in one hand and Larry's head in the other, Larry's head goes from smiling and dented to frowning and intact.

    • In Napoleon the Conquered, Josephine accompanies Napoleon to Waterloo BUT, by the time of the Battle of Waterloo, Napoleon had already dumped Josephine and married Princess Marie-Louise of Austria.

    • In "Napoleon the Conquered", watch the number of babies in Larry's hands. In the scene where Napoleon, Otto, and Tuddrussel stick Larry with the kids, there are 7 babies total (3 in Tuddrussel's hands, two in Napoleon's hands, one in Otto's hands, and one in Larry's hands). After the scene where Napoleon, Tuddrussel, and Otto are washing dishes and the camera pans away from a close-up shot of Larry, there are nine babies (three in the bassinet to Larry's left, three crawling around, and three in another bassinet to the right). After Josephine leaves for cooking class a couple of scenes later, there are six babies around Larry (one standing up, two crawling around, and three in a stroller).

    • You'll see the the mispelled namecheck on the TV monitor at the Time Squad headquarters was "Julius Caeser".

    • No he wasn't...because he WASN'T REAL! He's just a legend cooked up to try and cheer up the serfs...many years after the time he was supposed to have existed, mind. Yep, you heard it here first, folks!

    • Why would Robin Hood need to fit in with the rich? The real Sir Robin of Locksley was already a noble before he was an outlaw.

    • (add to nitpick)Beethovcen wasn't born deaf, he became deaf later on. Maybe he wasn't def yet when Time squad arrived

    • Simon The Soldier: "A Lynde Thine Between Hove and Late"
The Trojan soldier Simon sounds like Paul Lynde, who was known for his appearances on Bewitched and Laugh-In in the 1960's.

    • When telling the guys what he thinks about representational art as being "Squaresville", ┬áLeonardo Da Vinci makes an outline of a square with his fingers, referencing the movie, Pulp Fiction.

    • The Island of Doctor Freud is a parody of the famous movie "The Island of Doctor Moreau".

    • Otto's line in "Tea Time For Time Squad" about Larry joining "the dark side" and he and Tuddrussel being "the only hope" is a reference to the movie "Star Wars" , and the fact that Larry is voiced by Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill.

BABS could be an oblique reference to an urban legend that Albert Einstein appeared on the radio program GUNSMOKE. What a German physicist would be doing in the Old West is beyond me....

    • Since the new cheerful Edger Allen Poe turned "The Tell Tale Heart" into "The Sweetheart Tale" and the "Pit and the Pendulum" into the "Posie and the Pencil". Most likely, "The Bear" is a cheerful rewrite of "The Raven".

    • Every Poe has a silver lining Title pun: Every cloud has a silver lining.

    • NA: NA
The chase sequence at the end of "The Prime Minister Has No Clothes", where Buck and the others chase Larry around trying to get him to put on some clothes, is an obvious reference to the famous British TV program "The Benny Hill Show", where every episode would end with a similar chase scene. They even have the same music playing during the chase as on "Benny Hill", "Yakety Sax" by "Boots" Randolph.
