  • "It began in the future. A time machine called TRAX, criminals who vanish, and a lawman who must pursue into the past. Now he is among us, a special breed of man. He has one weapon and a computer called Selma. With her, he will travel through our world, searching for fugitives from his own, knowing he cannot go home until he has found them all. His name is Darien Lambert, and this is his story."moreless

    • Elyssa: (to Darien, referring to Selma) Come in. And bring that thing with you. Selma: (quietly, to Darien) That thing? Darien: (under his breath) Ssh! Selma, just take notes.

    • Police Chief: Come on, Frank. You were the first man to travel back in time. You are hardly gutless. Frank: Going back was easy. Being a black man in Washington in 1982, that took guts.

    • Darien: (referring to Elyssa) How do I find her? Selma: Well, I have her home address. Darien: Selma, you're a peach. Selma: I am a computer, captain. A peach is an extinct fruit form.

    • Selma: Is there any information required at this time? There are few questions I cannot answer. Darien: Bet I can fool you with a trick question. Selma: I have twenty-three files on tricks in my database. Does your question relate to cards, magic pranks, or prostitution? Darien: Okay, let's start over.

    • Selma: Do you have any further questions? I am operating on battery power. Darien: I'm sorry, I didn't mean to waste you. Selma: With recharge, my batteries will last 81.3 years. And you are not a wasteful personality. Your profile is too anal retentive. Darien: It's nice to have someone who really knows me.

    • Darien: I'm going back. Police Captain: You crazy bastard. Darien, you can't bring Elyssa back to life. Darien: It's what she asked me to do. Police Captain: To throw your life away? Darien: No, stop that! She's right. Sahmbi broke Dietrich. They went back to take over, and all of the others...scum of this earth, sent back to a world two hundred years more innocent than ours. Can she rest in peace with that? I can't.

    • (Darien appears in the women's restroom at the Smithsonian in 1993) Darien: Where are we? Selma: We are in the basement of the Smithsonian Museum of History. Darien: What's the date? Selma: June 15th, 1993, 9:38PM. Darien: So there is a parallel universe. Selma: You have chosen an odd time to accept the concept.

    • C.L. Burke: It is Duke's contention that Darien Lambert has arrived in the twentieth century. Is that possible!? Sahmbi: I may have underestimated Captain Lambert...

    Notes (3)

    • The second season sees a number of changes in the series: the pre-title narration changes to make it clearer (and less subtle) and the captions use different fonts.

    • This episode sees Elizabeth Alexander in two roles - as SELMA, and as Darien Lambert's biological mother.

    • The ferns around the crash site, and the bird songs, suggest that this episode was filmed in New Zealand, unlike the others which were filmed in Australia.

    Trivia (15)

    • Dr. Sahmbi's Trax program, on which the name of the series is based, stands for Trans-Time Research and Experimentation.

    • Darien's futuristic "special abilities" include a high IQ, speed memorization, fast sprinting and long distance running, the ability to hold his breath for up to six minutes, and the ability to slow down images. He also has a heart rate of 35 beats per minute and a life expectancy of 120 years.

    • As a child, Darien chose his own name. His first name came from a war hero from 2129, and his last name came from his birth mother's maiden name.

    • Selma's name is an acronym for Specified Encapsulated Limitless Memory Archive.

    • Trivia: Selma generates a sound pulse at 60000 MHz (or 60Ghz), this is the same frequency that is used for short range microwave data communication.

    • Trivia: At the start of this episode, SELMA states Darien is watching Australian football. He is actually watching a game called rugby league.

    • Trivia: Mace's equivalent of Selma is CINDI (Consumer Information Network Data Interface).

    • Trivia: The character Darien is chasing at the start is Henry Sabot. A Sabot is a device used to help light or small projectiles down a gun barrel, or from a crossbow.

Johannes Gutenberg was a German printer who invented the printing press and was the first European to use movable type. His most famous work was the Gutenberg Bible, which he printed in the 1450s, kicking off the era of printed books.

    • Police Chief: Who's shoes? Darien: Michael Jordan's. Police Chief: You'll never fill 'em. Darien: McEnroe's were too small. These are references to two athletes who had shoe deals with Nike. Michael Jordan is a former basketball player who won six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s, and John McEnroe was a tennis player who won seven Grand Slam singles titles in the 1970s and 80s.

    • Frank: (pointing to Darien's West Point sweatshirt, responding to his comment that people were thinner in 1993) So was Schwarzkopf! This is a reference to Norman Schwarzkopf, a former U.S. Army General who graduated from West Point. Schwarzkopf was the commander during the Gulf War in the 1990s.

    • C.L. Burke: (to Sahmbi, referring to his plan to have the president assassinated) The plan is as old as history, doctor. Is the plan of Bonaparte, Burr, Brutus. These are references to three historical figures who are linked to violent events in their political careers. Napoleon Bonaparte was a French military leader who staged a coup in 1799 and eventually became the emperor of France. Aaron Burr was the third Vice President of the U.S. who is famous for mortally wounding Alexander Hamilton, a former Secretary of the Treasury, in a gun duel in 1804. Marcus Janius Brutus was a Roman politician who was involved in the assassination of Julius Cesar.

    • Annie: (referring to Sepp Dietriech) His records are immaculate; his clearance comes from the highest level. Darien: You've never encountered forged documents? Treason in high places? Annie: This isn't Geraldo. Geraldo was a daytime talk show, hosted by Geraldo Rivera, that ran from 1987 to 1998. The show was often referred to as "Trash TV" because of its guests' controversial theatrics.

    • Title The title of this episode refers to "six beans on a wheel", or the name for a revolver in the Old West.

  • People were still toying with the idea of sci-fi in prime-time, and "time-cop" Darien Lambert's fish-out-of-water character and his pursuit of seeking justice on criminals of the future in our present day made this show unique and interesting.
