  • Joe's uncle gives him a mysterious book for his birthday, but when his friend Fred wishes for buried treasure while looking through the book, Joe, Sam and Fred suddenly find themselves transported back through time to the year 1718 on a pirate ship captained by the infamous Blackbeard.

    • (While rowing to Blackbeard's ship with Blackbeard singing, rather badly) Sam: What happened? Joe: I don't know. I remember looking at The Book, at those treasure pictures, and then zap! Fred: We end up being kidnapped by a tone-deaf pirate.

    • When Joe first gets The Book, Sam is seen at the kitchen table drinking milk. But in the show, Sam tells us he is lactose intolerant.

    • This TV version differs from the original series of books, in which Joe got The Book in "Knights of the Kitchen Table".

    • A preview of this episode aired on the afternoon of July 2 on some NBC stations.

    Trivia (1)

    • According to this episode, the practice of sending someone to a watery grave by making them "walk the plank" did not exist among the pirates until it was introduced by the Time Warp Trio!
