  • Episode Description
  • In this 'American special', Jeremy, James and Richard are on a fly-drive holiday with a difference. Instead of hiring a car, each has to buy a car for no more than $1000. Starting in Miami, they travel through Mississippi and Alabama - where they manage to upset the locals - and end their journey in New Orleans. As usual, there will be some Top Gear challenges along the way; a dead cow, prostitute-obsessed truckers and a meeting with Fat Stig - Stig's American cousin.moreless

  • And I thought the Bonneville Salt Flats USA West was good

  • Your show combines wit, humour and POWER, making it the best on TV. I laughed until I cried at this episode, once I saw that you would, in fact, live. Remember, Southern people love cars & GUNS.-And many of lessor known US roads beat yours hands down.

  • Trivia & Quotes
  • Quotes (8)

    • Jeremy Clarkson: Some say that he's a C.I.A. experiment that went wrong. And that he only eats cheese. All we know is he's not the Stig, but he is the Stig's American cousin!

    • Richard Hammond: All they've got to talk about on that C.B. is the weather and prostitutes. [adopts a southern drawl to imitate the trucker on the C.B.] Yeah, It's rainin', ah, I'm goin' north and I'm lookin' for a whore!

    • Jeremy Clarkson: That night, Brokeback and I feasted on beef and squirrel. And then, with May in bed, we decided it would be better for all of us, if the air-conditioning in his car were to break.

    • Jeremy Clarkson: They really do have an irony deficiency. I honestly believe that in certain parts of America now, people have started to mate with vegetables.

    • Jeremy Clarkson: God Florida's awful! Nasty insects, old people, fat people - a lot of people who all offer you cheese: [adopts American accent] 'you want cheese with that? You want cheese with that'? And then they shoot you.

    Trivia (2)

    • The first 'entrĂ©e' examined by the three presenters whilst exploring their road kill buffet was the remains of an armadillo (specifically a nine-banded armadillo). Armadillos were originally found in Texas but are now found as far east as Florida and South Carolina.

They have been found as far north as Nebraska. Their remains are frequently found on American highways because of a peculiar survival mechanism: when frightened, they will jump straight up. Unfortunately for an armadillo frightened by an oncoming vehicle, this means they will frequently jump straight up into the engine block of the car.
