  • Dick Van Dyke is host for this all-star tribute to the late Stan Laurel, the bow-tied partner in the comedy team of Laurel and Hardy. During the taped hour, there are film clips from "Laurel and Hardy's Laughing Twenties"; Buster Keaton and Lucille Ball offer a pantomime, set in a city park, about a policeman (Harvey Korman) who keeps breaking up the fun; Phil Silvers compares his career with Laurel's classic "Little Man"; Bob Newhart tells about Uncle Freddie, host of a TV children's show featuring Laurel and Hardy films; Audrey Meadows portrays the heroine in "The Perils Of Pauline"; and Louis Nye, Cesar Romero, Tina Louise and Leonid Kinskey re-create a silent-film set, where the director demands mood music to accompany the action. Danny Kaye recalls the night he accepted the Oscar for Stan in 1961, and a film clip shows Laurel's antic reaction to the award. Gregory Peck appears on behalf of the Motion Picture Relief Fund, recipient of the proceeds from tonight's show.
