  • show Description
  • Wide Angle is an award-winning documentary news series on PBS produced by Thirteen/WNET. The show premiered on July 11th, 2002, and is hosted by Aaron Brown, a former CNN and ABC News journalist. Each week, Wide Angle features a documentary that focuses on one particular current affairs issue from around the globe which Brown introduces at the beginning of the program. Past documentaries include AIDS Warriors, Gaza E.R., China Prep, and The Saudi Question. The show aims to focus on issues that are often untouched by the mainstream news media in order to shed light onto many of the overlooked corners of the world. Wide Angle is praised for its ability to put a human face on many of the issues that Americans hear about through other news sources, but fail to deeply understand beyond the headlines. The show often offers analysis of its documentaries by foreign affairs specialists, so that viewers can gain a deeper understanding of how the issues presented on the program have a connection to American society and culture. Through its eight current seasons, Wide Angle has been hosted by a number of different news anchors, including Bill Moyers, James Rubin, Mishal Husain and Daljit Dhaliwal. Wide Angle has won many awards including an Emmy, the Chicago International Television Hugo award, the Gabriel Award, and numerous other awards and acknowledgements both domestically and internationally.moreless
