Her talent with horses is recognized by a volunteer and local trainer Pablo, who arranges a job for her at the Ritter's family run ranch, Raintree. Thrown into a completely new environment, Kris must learn to deal with the challenges of fitting in, while trying not to disappoint the one family willing to give her a chance. The Ritters are facing challenges of their own even as they reach out to help Kris. Patriarch Henry Ritter and his daughter Jean are in a critical stage of their battle to save the ranch from financial ruin. • Junior: I can't believe she was in prison. That's so hot! Showering with all those girls.

    • Ken: The prison camp, you really want to take a chance with someone from a place like that? Pablo: I was in a place like that when I was 17; someone took a chance on me.

    • Jean: Hey Pablo you looking for me? Pablo: Nothing that can't wait. Jean: No, it's ok. Pablo: There's uh, someone I want to hire to replace Miguel. We've ben short handed since he left. Jean: You don't need my permission to hire a new hand. Pablo: She's one of the girls from Camp Lagrange I work with.

    • Pablo: Your mom busy? Todd: She's with Mr. Davis; he wants her to marry him.

    • Henry: He's not going to let you make a Momma's boy out of him, not that one. Why do you think he gets in all those fights at school? Jean: Because he's too much like his grandfather. Henry: Because he's trying to tell you he's not scared. Ken: Henry's got a point. Henry: I don't need your help... so what's for lunch?

    • Junior: You never told me that Pablo had a daughter. Matt: He doesn't. Junior: Then who is she?

    • Kris: Well the judge says it's just for three months so after that... Pablo: Do you want this job? Because if you don't I could turn around right now and drive you back to Oakland. Kris: I don't want to go back to Oakland. Pablo: That's not enough. Kris: I want the job.

    • Jean: Todd, meds , I don't want you going with your brother on that thing. Todd: I'll be fine mom.

    Notes (59)

    • This episode aired for the first time in Brazil: April 16th, 2006, on A&E.

    • International Airdates: Canada: June 20 on ABC Family Ch.16

    • This episode was two hours long, instead of the normal one hour episode. The original idea of ABC Family was to make it a movie, but then they broke it into one hour episodes. The first episode was two hours long, and is considered two episodes on the DVD, but was aired as one on its premiere night.

    • Wildfire had previously been developed at the WB as a potential series, but was made into a two-hour movie instead after moving to ABC Family (Daily Variety, Oct. 13). Execs then decided after screening the finished product they wanted twelve episodes, including the 2-hour premiere.

    • Wildfire is actually being filmed in New Mexico, not in Fremont (Northern California) where it is set.

    • Wildfire's pilot broke records for ABC Family, becoming the most watched in the history of the channel with a 1.7 HH rating.

    • Music featured in this episode included: "All the Dark Horses" by Trashcan Sinatras "Morning Light" by Truman "Bite of an Apple" by Dillon Fence "Right Here" by John Fields and David Falzone "Finding Out True Love is Blind" by Louis XIV "High" by James Blunt "Attagirl" by Bettie Serveert "Strutting with Kiara" by Patric Ciard "Bonehead" by Bobby Radcliff "Twilight" by Squirrel Nut Zippers

    • Wildfire increased its ratings in its second week in key demos across the board, including households, adults 18-34, and adults 18-49.

    Trivia (25)

    • Ryan Sypek says that "My most embarrassing moment was during the first episode of Wildfire. I was in my Porsche, and so amped up and nervous that I kicked it into reverse and peeled out the wrong way."

    • In the original airing of this episode, towards the end when Matt visits Bobby's house, Dani comes out and they show a frontal of her with two cocktail glasses she is holding covering her breasts without her top on. In the airing during the Wildfire Labor Day Marathon, that particular scene was cut out, and instead only her back was shown.

    • Jean claims there have been no wild horses around the area in her lifetime... yet Matt knows exactly where to go to find them, and knows they will try to get to the canyon.

    • Just a bit of a nitpick... both times the bookie threatens Matt, he warns him that he's going to do something, and that Matt knows what's going to happen... Well, we know he didn't go after Wildfire, so exactly what was the bookie talking about?

    • Kris is reading through a magazine called Modern Jockey. This magazine does not exist in real life. It's just a prop.

    • Continuity Error: In the previous episode, and even in the "last time" part of the episode, when Tina and Kris are being filmed, when Tina says "she's an ex-con" Kris is on Tina's left but when Ken Davis is watching the interview she is on Tina's right.

    • Matt decides to take the job offer from Dani.

    • Piccaro fell and broke his canon bone, an injury which usually leads to the horse being put down.

    Allusions (15)

    • Charlie: All I did is sit at home playing Pac-Man and writing my newsletter -- Jedi Talk. Pac-Man was a bestselling video game and Jedi Talk was probably a Star Wars newsletter. The Jedi were a group of heroes in the epic movie saga.

    • "That damn Swedish furniture" is most likely a reference to IKEA. IKEA has cheaper than normal furniture, because it hasn't yet been assembled. Sometimes it's a little tougher than it looks, as Junior found out.

    • Dani tells Evan that her horse has the bloodlines of Man O' War and Secretariat. Man O' War was so good, he was penalized! He would have to carry more than the typical 138 pounds as a 4-year-old, so his owner retired him to stud. He proved to be quite a stud. Among his 386 registered foals were 64 stakes winners, including 1937 Triple Crown winner War Admiral, 1929 Kentucky Derby winner Clyde Van Dusen and Battleship, the winner of the 1938 Grand National Steeplechase in England. While one of his offspring, Hard Tack, sired the famous Seabiscuit. Secretariat is perhaps the best known race horse of all time. He won the 1973 Belmont Stakes in 2:24 flat, a world record for 1.5 miles. Both the legendary horses have a nickname in common: "Big Red."

    • Junior explains the meaning of a "Buckner" to Todd while they are watching a baseball game on TV. Bill Buckner was an all-star first baseman who is remembered most for an unfortunate error he made in a World Series play-off game (Game 6, 1986), allowing the New York Mets to beat the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox's World Series 86-year World Series drought continued until 2004.

    • Dani: (to Junior) What'd you do, take a freakin' Tom Cruise pill? This is likely an allusion to Tom Cruise's "strange/crazy" behavior as of late, since proclaiming his love to actress Katie Holmes.

    • Matt: Who's Luke Perry? Luke Perry is an actor who shot to fame while starring in the hit '90's TV series Beverly Hills, 90210.

    • When Junior welcomes Kris to the Davis "Family Circus," he could be alluding to the popular cartoon strip, "Family Circus," about a family that has lots of crazy things happen to them.

    • Opportunity Knocks: The title of this episode is also the title of a 1990 movie starring Dana Carvey.
