  • Episode Description
  • Matt Damon makes a guest appearance as a clever charmer named Owen, who's competing against Jack for a spot in New York's Gay Men's Chorus. Truth be told, however, Owen is totally straight and is really after the group's big perk: a summer trip to Europe, all-expenses paid. Jack suspects Owen's ruse but needs proof. How about the hug test? Now a flustered Jack reluctantly turns to Grace to "in" Owen. Meanwhile, a scheming Karen tries to pass off an unwitting Will as her lover and not her lawyer when she discovers that she's the object of pity for being single at her own Valentine's Day partymoreless

  • #416 'A Chorus Lie'

    By Edie70, Jul 09, 2012

  • Matt Damon playing gay is an absolute classic episode for "Will and Grace." Considering how much ribbing Matt Damnon and Ben Affleck have taken for their friendship over the years, this episode is a real treasure.

  • Quotes (17)

    • Beverly: You are a liar, Karen Walker!
Karen: What are you talking about?
Beverly: I don't believe that that man in there is your gigolo. I haven't heard one peep out of that room all weekend, and believe me I've been listening!

    • Owen: (to Grace) And you... thanks for the tea--and A.

    • Owen: (to Grace) Oh would you look at that, my hand seems to be going up your thigh. Right-uh right to your... ROCKIN' ASS!

    • Owen: I'm really exicted about going to Europe. I almost went once with my girlfriend...and by girlfriend I mean, (in an effeminate voice) 'Hey girlfriend what you wearin' to Europe? Ho!' It was a guy, huge arms.

    • Grace: Jack, why is my door locked? You better not be using my hair crimper on your bad place again.

    Notes (1)

    • Owen sings "Let's Hear It For The Boy" by Deniece Williams, from the movie Footloose.

    Trivia (3)

    • Sean Hayes selected this episode and "Went to a Garden Potty" as his tapes for Emmy consideration this season. Hayes lost to Brad Garrett this season.

    • When shown in syndication, the scene where Woman#1, Woman#2, and Woman#3 are trying to proposition Will, is edited and sometimes it is completely cut.

    • Owen (Matt Damon) said he was in a long-term relationship with his high school boyfriend "Ben". Although he was lying, this may have been a reference to Damon's friend Ben Affleck.

    Allusions (3)

    • Karen: Oh, good Lord! You scared me! Shouldn't you be in your tree making cookies? Karen makes another joke about Beverly Leslie's short stature by comparing him to the Keebler elves.

    • Episode Title: A Chorus Lie This is an obvious reference to the long-running musical and later film A Chorus Line.

    • Jack: (upon learning Owen is straight) Anne Heche Laffoon! This is a reference to the actress Anne Heche, whom many claim she pretended to be lesbian when she was with Ellen DeGeneres. Heche's full married name was Anne Heche Laffoon, before divorcing her husband.
