  • Jack: OK. So, clearly Karen meant to fix this guy up with me. Barry and I have dinner. You cry quietly in the corner until I signal you to pay the check. I go home with him, you cook us brunch tomorrow. Eggs, please.
Will: Interesting. Here's how I see it. I grab you by the ear...
    Jack: Ow! Ow, ow!
Will: I drag you to the door...
    Jack: Ow!
Will: And I push you in front of a car. (Pushes Jack out the door)

  • Will: (getting a gift from Barry) Oh, would you look at that? A rainbow flag beach towel! Now they'll be able to see my homosexuality from space!

  • Will: (about Barry) Let's start with his stomach. It's soft, like a baby's, and like a baby, HE JUST CAME OUT!

  • Julie: You need a hand unpacking? I'm happy to help, unless you have a bunch of personal weird stuff you don't want me to see. Grace: No, just don't open the one marked 'Tools'.

  • Grace: (irritated) Guys! What are you doing? I've been sitting in my apartment all day. I thought you were coming to visit me. Will: We were just leaving. Jack: We're on our way. Karen: We're there. Where are you? Hello?

  • Jack: Wait! You don't understand. Barry is my soul mate. Will:You haven't even met him. Jack: I love him! Will: You're crazy. (Will pushes Jack out the door) Jack (yelling from outside): Crazy in love!

  • Will (to Barry): We're here to help. You got a late start, but we're gonna take care of you and raise you right. Think of us as your 'mo pair.

  • Jack: What?! He's never been with a man before?! So he's the virgin Barry.

Allusions (2)

  • Episode Title: F*gmalion Part One: Gay It Forward
The umbrella title for this four-part episode refers to the Greek legend of the sculptor who fell in love with his female creation, and to George Bernard Shaw's play "Pygmalion," which was the basis for the 1964 classic "My Fair Lady," starring Audrey Hepburn. In "Pygmalion" Henry Higgins and Colonel Pickering educate Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle so she could successfully impersonate an English aristrocrat, and of course both men were smitten with her. Within the context of this episode, Will and Jack mold Barry,a scruffy-looking straight man, into the gay man of their dreams. Much like the original story, both Will and Jack fall for their creation.

  • Episode Title: F*gmalion Part One: Gay It Forward This is a reference to the 2000 film "Pay it Forward," where a boy adopted a system to change the world: If someone helps you then you have to help someone else out. Within the context of this episode, it's referring to how Jack helped Will come out about being gay and so now Will is helping Barry in the same way.
