  • When this episode originally aired, the first part of the qualifier round was aired to coincide with half-time of the Superbowl, which was airing on another channel. The rest of the episode was not aired until the conclusion of the Superbowl.

  • The original episode title as "Superball Sunday." It was later changed to "Wipeout Bowl 1: Cheerleaders vs. Couch Potatoes."

Trivia (1)

  • This is the first episode in which John Anderson says the closing line "Good night and Big Balls." John Henson closes each episode with that line but he was not in the booth at the end of the episode.

Allusions (2)

  • John Henson: Man, that motivator is a total Ditka. This is a playful use of Mike Ditka's name. Mike Ditka is a former NFL football player, coach and sport commentator. He is most famous for his hot temper and his years as coach of the Chicago Bears.

  • John Anderson: Howard Cosell would be proud. In this reference John Anderson and John Henson are dressed as old-time sports commentators. Howard Cosell was a pro-lific sports commentator who was famous for "telling it like it is."
