    • Wolverine: What are you doing? Where are the other mutants? Beast: Gone their seperate ways. But those cells we emptied, they're be full again tomorrow... and the next day. Wolverine: Yeah... Hank, we both know what's going on. There's a war coming, and it ain't gonna be pretty. Beast: I agree. So, what's next? Wolverine: We bring back the X-Men.

    • Wolverine: Anyone here torch a hanger? Pyro: You're singin' my song, mate! Boom Boom, light 'em up. Boom Boom: Sure thing, hot shot.

    • Wolverine: (To Col. John Wraith) Now, I want you to leave that nice family alone. Got it? And so you don't forget, here's a little... incentive. (Turns on the sensory assault helmet)

    • Col. John Wraith: This is a sensory assault helmet, the cutting edge in information gathering. Last chance... Randy: You're the ones people should watch out for, not the mutants.

    • Randy: So what now, you gonna torture me? Colonel John Wraith: Think of it as... incentive to tell me the truth about Wolverine. Randy: I'll tell you the truth- he's a hero!

    • Wolverine: (To Beast) Let's go, Chewy. You find out where they keep the prisoners, I'll lock up these guards.

    • M.R.D. Agent: Hands behind your head, freak. Now! Beast: See here gentlemen- let's take a deep breath, shall we? You see, I'm a pacifist by nature so, those weapons are not... (Wolverine drop kicks the agents) Wolverine: Let me guess, the shackles were chaffing, right?

    • M.R.D. Agent: What kind of mutant do you got in there? Wolverine: One big, ugly beast. Now can we hurry it up? You do not want this thing bustin' out right here.

    Allusions (12)

    • Wolverine: (To Beast) Let's go, Chewy. This is a reference to Chewbacca from George Lucas' "Star Wars" films. Both Beast and Chewbacca look alike, in that they are hairy creatures. In addition, the situation in which Wolverine and Beast find themselves is almost identical to Han Solo, Chewbacca and Luke Skywalker making their way around the Death Star in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Just as Wolverine and Beast posed as captor-captive to sneak into the MRD center, Han and Luke posed as Stormtroopers with Chewbacca as captive to get to the detention area and free the princess. Similarly, both Beast and Chewbacca find that their handcuffs don't fit.

    • The new Sentinel unveiled by Senator Kelly bares a strong resemblance to the Spider-Slayers of the '90s Spider-Man series.

    • Wolverine: This is Emma Frost, former Headmistress of the Massachusetts Academy. In the "Generation X" comic books, Emma Frost became the headmistress who helped oversee the younger mutants, along with Banshee. This occured after the Phalanx Covenant storyline in the early '90's.

    • Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: Near the end of the episode, Xavier mentally projects his own head, in a holographic form, to the X-Men. This is similar to how Zordon from the tv series "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers" contacts the Power Rangers. Also, both characters are the mentor of a super-powered team.

    • Wolverine: This is Emma Frost, former Headmistress of the Massachusetts Academy. Shadowcat: Hmm, never heard of it. In the original storyline, when Shadowcat first manifested her powers, both Xavier and Frost tried to recruit her. Emma Frost was the first to her house, with an invitation to the Academy.

    • Excalibur: The episode's title, X-Calibre, is a play on the original name Excalibur, the legendary royal sword of Arthurian lore.

    • The drowned ship is called Ellis, possibly after comic book writer Warren Ellis. Ellis is currently the writer of Astonishing X-Men and many years ago was the writer on Excalibur.

    • This episode draws heavily from Wolverine's first appearance in Incredible Hulk #180. In it, Hulk is battling the Wendigo when Wolverine appears and attacks. Also in this episode, in the flashback to their first fight, you see Wolverine's original costume.
