HBO was the big network winner in the Creative Arts Emmys, which took place Saturday, August 19. The cable network earned 17 Emmys; ABC was closest, with 10. The network scorecard broke down like this: HBO won 17, ABC scored 10, NBC earned 8, and CBS and Fox tied with seven each.
Cloris Leachman grabbed an Emmy--her eighth career win--for her role in Malcolm in the Middle, making her the world record holder for female individual Emmy wins. The 80-year-old actress has also won for the 1983 daytime movie The Woman Who Willed a Miracle, 1984's Screen Actors Guild 50th Anniversary Celebration, a 1998 episode of Promised Land, a 1974 episode of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, two in 1975, for episodes of Cher and The Mary Tyler Moore Show, respectively, and in 1973 for the TV movie A Brand New Life. She also won an Academy Award for her role in the 1971 film The Last Picture Show.
"If your heart doesn't stop beating and you stay up with it, look what happens," quipped the acerbic funnylady.
In a moderate upset, The Simpsons beat out the highly-tipped South Park (with the Tom Cruise episode "Trapped In the Closet") for Outstanding Animated Program under one hour.

This it the second time I've seen The Simpsons win an Emmy for an episode when there were better choices. Futurama should have won for either "Jurasic Bark" or "The Sting" (I forget what years these were) but The Simpsons won for "Three Gays Of The Condo". It wasn't even as good as the previous gay themed episode "Homer's Phobia". They should judge it based on the quality of the episode, not just vote to support an issue when there are much better places to do that. The Simpsons just isn't what it used to be, but neither is South Park. The difference is, South Park got better. Yes, The Simpsons is why newer cartoons exist, but The Simpsons wouldn't exist without The Flintstones but we don't give it all the Emmys do we? We should be judging things based on how they are today, not how they were years ago.
Ugh. The Italian Bob was awful. A great example of the current lazy simpsons writing. South Park or Foster's Home for imaginary friends should've won.
The Simpsons really diesered the Emmy. Lets face it though if The Simpsons never came on "Family Guy & South Park wouldn't exist" I mean who would have thought of an Animated show not aimed at kids would work. Go Simpsons.

How does The Simpsons keep on winning awards? It's terrible now. It's not funny, whatsoever; it's actually painful to watch. It's not that I'm a hater, I love watching the old ones, but it's just not funny anymore.
I didn't actually see the Simpsons episode, but both the South Park episode and the Family Guide episode were great (I'm just surprised no one else is mentioning FG- the episode nominated is, IMO, the best ep of the series).
o_o Has South Park EVER won an emmy for anything? I know Phil Collins beat them a few years ago for music in a movie... And it also looks like The Simpsons is invincible, it wins pretty much anything it's nominated for. At least Camp Lazlo didn't win the award though. 8D
