They formed in 1995 as Kara's Flowers.

Take one listen to Maroon 5's Songs About Jane (Octone Records) and you'll instantly hear what a little bit of soul can do to the heart of alternative rock. Fronted by Adam Levine, a guitar virtuoso with a captivating voice and a

More strutting attitude, and backed by powerhouse players James Valentine, Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden and Ryan Dusick, the band blends elements of funk and blues influences into their rock & roll songs. Maroon 5 is not here to shove their ideas down your throat, but when Adam's belting out a tune and the band is drawing a mesmerized audience into their world, you know they mean it.

Schoolmates since junior high school, Maroon 5 (formerly known as Kara's Flowers) played their first show at The Whisky in Los Angeles on September 16, 1995. Hundreds gathered to see their eclectic mix of pop, punk and rock music. It was their energy onstage that made the audience take notice.

By summer of 1997, Kara's Flowers had released The Fourth World, their critically acclaimed debut album on Reprise Records, and the band immediately set out on the road playing with bands like Reel Big Fish and Goldfinger.

Kara's Flowers left Reprise Records in 1999 to start a new musical direction. After years of experimentation and exploration (as well as the addition of guitarist James Valentine), the unique melding of rock, R&B and soul emerged that now defines Maroon 5's musical Their sound had begun to transform as the band members absorbed new influences through their college experiences. From its roots as an alternative-rock band in the tradition of acts like Weezer and Nada Surf, Maroon 5 began to experiment and evolve. Hints of R&B and folk were gradually woven through the alternative rock fabric that was the band's musical base. New songs like the album's first single, "This Love," as well as "Sunday Morning," "Secret," and "Not Coming Home" reflect a sound evocative of the band's newfound interest in soul music.

"During the time between our record deals," Adam recalls, "I spent a lot of time in New York where I was exposed to an urban and hip-hop culture in a way that had never happened to me in L.A. It turned me on to an entirely new genre of music which has had a profound impact on my songwriting." After performing showcases for senior executives at many major labels, Maroon 5 ultimately chose to sign with newly founded New York City based independent label, Octone Records. Octone Records is distributed by BMG Music Entertainment and has an artist development co-venture relationship with Clive Davis' J Records.

The band recorded Songs About Jane in Los Angeles with famed producer/mixer Matt Wallace (Train, Blues Traveler, Third Eye Blind, Faith No More) at Rumbo Recorders, the same studio where such seminal artists as Guns N' Roses, Stone Temple Pilots, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Smashing Pumpkins and John Mellencamp have recorded some of their best work. Now based in Los Angeles, Maroon 5 regularly plays to sold-out crowds at many of the city's finest clubs such as the El Rey, House of Blues and the Viper Room and have already opened for artists such as Michelle Branch, Evan & Jaron and Nikka Costa.

With Songs About Jane, Maroon 5 is up to the task of converting music lovers into their groovy rock & roll musical world. As declared in "Shiver," "I won't be satisfied 'til I'm under your skin."

I love Maroon 5! hide show

Maroon 5's Songs About Jane cd was one of the first cd's I bought that I actually loved all the songs on. Songs like Secret, The Sun, and Must Get Out, actually every song, had meaning. I wish more music artist could be this talented. Maroon 5 & The Fray. My favorite bands. I don't like listening to rap anymore, it's not like it used to be, so I started gettging into this type of music, and I love it. I also want to buy their new cd, and i just heard their new single. I laughed when he said he had to shoot the guy dead. Maroon 5 is going to be one of the greats. Heck, they already are! 'I've been the needle and the thread, weaving figure 8's and circles round your head I try to laugh but cry instead patiently wait to hear the words you never said...'

    Great band hide show

Maroon 5 in my opinion are one of the most original and talented bands around. The lead singer Adam Levine, is a very talented singer with a great voice.
Maroon 5 have won a handfull of awards, one being a 'World Music Award' for Best New Group. Their first album 'Songs About Jane', released in 2002 had the brilliant songs, 'This Love', 'She will be loved' and 'Sunday Morning'. This album reached numberone in the charts.
Five years later (2007) they have released their second album 'It Won't Be Soon Before Long', which also reached number one in the charts, and consists of the brilliant songs 'Makes Me wonder' and the most recently released 'Wake up Call'. Maroon have have made a great career in music so far and I they are still this good in the music buisiness in years to come.

one of the better bands of its time. hide show

maroon 5 is probably 1 of my top 10 bands. i dont believe they are the greatest out right now, but still very talented. their first album was great, and i also like "makes me wonder", despitethe fact that im against songs with explicit lyrics ( they didnt need to use the f word 3 times, and g-damn ). anyway, we got so many bands today, its kind of hardto stand out as one of the better bands. but maroon 5 is in the front of the line, behind a few others. i honestly think they are one of the most talented soft-rock/pop bands of this period in time.
