In June 2008 PETA called on its supporters to defend animal rights and sent both Ashley and Mary-Kate hair clippings in protest to their wearing of fur. (edit) The casting director for Weeds once said that he had Mary-Kate go through the audition process twice for her role, just to make sure she was right for it. They didn't think she'd be good enough, because of her and Ashley's reputation for not being the best actresses in the world, but in the end, she really nailed it. This was the first acting role that Mary-Kate took on independently, without her twin sister. (edit) It is said that when Mary-Kate and Ashley first started Full House at nine months old, Mary-Kate was the calmer, less fussy baby, and because her sister was crying all the time, Mary-Kate had to play Michelle for most of the scenes in Season 1. (edit) Mary-Kate was hospitalized in New York for a kidney infection in November 2007. (edit) In August 2007 Mary-Kate stopped her studies at NYU after her classmates kept selling stories to the tabloids. Although she has stopped studying, she remains enrolled at the university and has only a year-and-a-half to finish her degree. (edit)

Mary-Kate: Australia is so cool that it's hard to even know where to start describing it. The beaches are beautiful; so is the weather. Not too crowded. Great food, great music, really nice people. It must be a lot like Los Angeles was many years ago. (edit) Mary-Kate: (on New York Minute) I learned how to play the drums! When we were in pre-production, when we were still in LA, I had a couple of drum lessons and then some in Toronto. I got the one beat down and that was it. (edit) Mary-Kate: (about taking her SATs) I get extra time to take the test because of my ADHD. Everybody's brains work differently and I just need longer for things to register. (edit) Mary-Kate: (about being cast as a drug addict on Weeds) I've spent the last year going on auditions, acting, and working hard. There will always be my celebrity, but my work speaks for itself. (edit) Mary-Kate: When we were kids, the work we did wasn't about acting. It was about pleasing people and making kids smile. (edit)
