After leaving NYPD Blue, David Caruso returns to TV in the title role as Michael Hayes. Hayes is a gritty ex-New York cop-turned-federal prosecutor who uses his street smarts to convict criminals as Acting U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York. Helping in the upbringing of his nephew and consoling his sister-in-law, Hayes struggles to keep his Irish Catholic, working class family together while standing in for his ex-con, deadbeat-dad younger brother.
