Michael O'Donoghue was probably one of the darkest minds comedy has ever known. A product of Harvard, he wrote for The National Lampoon during its early glory days from 1970 to 1974. Amongst his works was the classic article "Tarzan of the Cows." Along with girlfriend and fellow Lampooner Anne Beatts, he became a writer for "Saturday Night Live," serving as the unoffical head writer from 1975 to 1979 and again in 1981. After his television stint, he wrote screenplays to movies such as "Who's That Girl?" and "Scrooged." He married SNL Band pianist Cheryl Hardwick in 1987. Mr. Mike was living in California until his abrupt death in 1994. The day he died he woke up thinking he had a migrane so he took his medication and went back to bed. He woke a second time in a great deal of pain, so his wife called an ambulance. When they got to the hospital he was announced brain dead and taken off life support.
