Former police detective Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub), whose photographic memory and amazing ability to piece together tiny clues made him a local legend, has suffered from intensified obsessive-compulsive disorder and a variety of phobias since the unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, in 1997. Now on psychiatric leave from the San Francisco Police Department and working as a freelance detective/ consultant on difficult cases, Monk hopes to convince his former boss, Captain Leland Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine), to allow him to return to the force. Stottlemeyer, who wavered between admiration for Monk and annoyance at his eccentricities during the first season, is becoming more of a friend to Monk as the series develops, frequently calling him in to help, as much for Monk's benefit as for his own. However, he knows Monk's limitations as well as his strengths and may still harbor doubts about the wisdom of allowing Monk to carry a gun or subdue a perpetrator. Stottlemeyer's second-in-command, Lieutenant Randall Disher (Jason Gray-Stanford), also seems to be developing both admiration and compassion for the man he once labeled "the defective detective."

Despite flaws and inadequacies all around, the three are becoming an increasingly effective team, with additional help from Monk's personal assistant. From the double-episode pilot through the first half of season three, Monk was aided by his nurse, Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram). But in the tenth episode of the third season, Sharona was replaced by a new assistant, Natalie Teeger (Traylor Howard). Like Sharona, a divorcee with a son named Benjy, Natalie is a single parent, a widow with a daughter named Julie (Emmy Clarke). Unlike Sharona, Natalie is not a nurse but a former bartender with a fresh perspective on "Mr. Monk," as she still addresses her new boss. less «

  Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, best known as portraying Mr. Eko in ABC's Lost will be joining the cast of Monk for a portion of the eighth and final season. On the final season of the USA mystery, he'll prove to be the catalyst to Monk unlocking his wife's murder.   Monk is a crime investigator show with a wierd twist. hide « show »

  Monk is about a man named Adrian Monk who was dismissed from the force. Adrian traumitized from his wife's murder he became a private detective. With the help of his friends Natalie Teager his nurse, loutinant Randy Disher, and Captain Leeland Stauturlmire Monk tries to find his wife's killer. Monk is an outstanding show to go up against these other crime tv shows. Monk has OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Dissorder). Monk is one of the best crime investigation tv shows out there. This show is comical and sad at the same time. Monk can be serious one moment then go to the comedy side another.

  Monk is a great show I love it.
  (Sorry about my other review it was meant to be about Mr Monk and the Garbage Strike but I actually had it on the wrong web page when I pressed write review and I didn't realise until now so here is my review of the hide « show »

  Monk is entertaining with all the allergies and Adrian Monk's fears including a fear of germs that makes the show as good as it is because the show is only as good as the characters and the way the actors or actresses portray them so a cheer for Tony Shalhoub who makes Monk the loved character that he is today.Also we can't forget the rest of the cast and their characters it was a shame that they couldn't Brad Pitt to play Randy (Mr.Monk and the Actor if you don't get it).
  
  So overall this show is awesome not only does it have great sometimes quirky characters but it also has mysteries so what's not to love about Monk and remember it's a jungle out there.

  Monk is, was, and always will be one of the best shows out there. Tony Shaloub's awesome performance, combined with great stories and a killer-- yet very unknown-- back story, make this show stand above the rest. It's just awesome. hide « show »

  Over the past several seasons, Monk, as a series, has evolved from being a dark, mysterious, and sometimes funny show to being a funny, dark, and sometimes mysterious show. Monk, as a character, however, has not evolved much. His obsessive-compulsive personality and saddening past have made him stone cold, and he continues to solve crimes as the only way to console himself in his shadowy, fear-filled world. It still remains fun to watch Adrian solve crimes, murders, and mysteries with extreme dedication, even after so many seasons of episodes. Over the series run, Monk has lost an assistant and gained one, lost a shrink and found a new one, found rivals, enemies, friends, and even occasionally a clue that may eventually help solve his one true, final goal: to find the man who took his wife's life with a car bomb. Of course, we won't know until the final season comes and goes this summer. I just hope the writers make this a show to remember, and are able to bow out with pride.

  Sorry its ending hide « show »

  Monk it one of the funniest and most origional shows on television. i have watched it since season two and have seen most of the episodes more than once. he is the kind of character that everyone can relate to. it is such a shame that the show decided to end as i feel it could have gone on for several more seasons. at least though we will now find out who killed monks wife trudy!! i cant wait to see how it ends and yet i hope it never does. at least it will always live on in reruns!

  Monk is probably the most original show I have ever seen. hide « show »

  Monk is a detective is San Fransico who has an extreme case of OCD and many phobias. When has a show even been remotely like that!? It is so original. Monk solves just about every crime he is put up against except the most important one...The car bombing of his late wife, Trudy.
  Now yes, some episodes can be very unrealistic and Monk in its eight seasons has lost some of its touch, but that doesn't stop it from being a great show still.
  The acting is very good. Tony Shaloub does an extremely excellent job in protraying Monk. Ted Levine, Traylor Howard, Jason Grey-Stanford, and the late Stanley Kamel also do a fine job.
  I consider Monk a drama with a lot of quirky and comedic elements. The writing is fine, directing is very good, and, even though I said it's lost some of its touch, an all-around grat show.
