100 Kilos is a 2001 crime drama film directed by Rod S. Scott. It was based on a true story. It is set in the 1980s and follows Ricky Ross (played by Glenn Plummer), a South Central Los Angeles homeboy. Ricky is importing and selling cocaine with his street gang named the Freeway Boyz. Everything seems to be going alright for Ricky as he is making millions of dollars off of his drug sales. However he finds out that his street contacts are corrupt CIA agents who are planning to finance a violent Central American war in Nicaragua with the drug profits. It was a low budget production and this hinders it highly, even with its truthful and shocking political story. The real life Ricky Ross was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1996 for trying to purchase over one hundred kilograms of cocaine from a federal agent. However his case was appealed when the CIA connection came out. Ross's sentence was reduced to only twenty years and was then further reduced and he was eventually released in 2009.
