12:08 East of Bucharest is a 2006 Romanian film written and directed by Corneliu Porumboiu that presents the controversial story of the Revolution which removed Romanian dictator Ceausescu from power. 16 years later, a few days before Christmas, a local television host, Virgil Jderescu (Teodor Corban), is interested in doing a special talk-show about historic events that took place in his hometown during the Revolution. His only guests are Tiberiu Manescu (Ion Sapdaru), a history teacher who faces the tough challenge of staying sober, and Emanoil Piscoci (Mircea Andreescu), a retired old man who enjoys playing Santa for children, rather than sophisticated conversations. Each one of them seems to have a different opinion about what happened, and they even start to doubt whether the Revolution actually took place in their hometown. When Jderescu decides to add some excitement to the discussion, he opens the phone lines for viewers to tell their opinions. A hilarious and controversial debate leaves the guests wondering whether they ever knew the truth about their past.moreless
