28 Up (1984) is the fourth installment in a series of documentaries which chronicle the lives of 14 British subjects with varying socio-economic backgrounds. The Up series, a mission helmed mainly by researcher Michael Apted since 1964, is regarded by many critics as the best documentary series ever made. Apted began filming his subjects at age 7, and every 7 years he revisits the same 14 subjects and captures them in their newest state. It is interesting to note how much or how little each individual changes, and how those changes compare with everyone else's progress - or decline. In 28 Up, Apted finds just five of the original 14 subjects in perplexing states of high consciousness and acute self-awareness. Many of them debate whether they've found purpose in life, and more importantly, a place in the world where they feel like they belong. Some argue this particular installation of the series features the most amount of progress between years. See for yourself if Suzi, Symon, Paul, Peter and Neil have shown any improvements since age 21. One thing is for sure, 28 Up will not bore you.moreless
