It is Arizona in the late 1800's, and the outlaw Ben Wade, along with his gang of thieves and murderers, has been terrorizing the Southern Railroad. Dan Evans is struggling to survive on his drought-plagued ranch, and comes across Ben Wade and his gang using his cattle to ambush a stagecoach. When one survives the ambush, Evans reveals Wade is going to nearby Bisbee. Evans is desperate and losing his livelihood, and goes to confront the landowner that is selling the land he needs, when he comes across Wade, distracting him while the guards ambush and arrest him. Evans volunteers to deliver him alive to the 3:10 to Yuma, the train that will take him to trial. With Wade's gang hot on their heels and dangers at every turn, the mission turns into a difficult and violent journey, where Evans and Wade earn each other's respect on the way to the 3:10 To Yuma.
