9/12 weeks is Adrian Lyne's 1986 erotic-drama now available on Netflix. It stars Kim Bassinger as Elizabeth, a sexy NYC art gallery employee, and a young Mickey Rourke, in his original rise to fame, as john, a narcissistic wall street hot shot. The film is based on the book of the same name, and refers to the duration of the pair's taboo and lust-filled sex affair. Quickly after meeting John, Elizabeth is drawn to his sexual prowess and is taken to the very edge of her fantasies until the experience becomes emotionally too much for her to handle, in the reality of her life outside of the affair. Though not a huge box office success domestically, the film continues to draw an audience and raise eyebrows today due to it's deeply primal portrayal of sex in the world of everyday working individuals. It's most memorable scene has the couple combining sex and food, and is one of the first mainstream american film to portray the world of fetishism.moreless
