9 is the 2009 animated film from director Shane Acker and producer Tim Burton. The film chronicles the existence of nine homunculus-like rag dolls after the world was destroyed by a weapons producing machine called the Fabrication Machine. When an unnamed scientist (Alan Oppenheimer) creates the "stitchpunks" in hopes of thwarting the destruction ravaged upon the world, he endows each of the nine with a part of his soul. 9 (Elijah Wood) is the scientist's bravery and courage. 8 (Fred Tatasciore) uses his brute force to get what he wants. 7 (Jennifer Connelly) is a warrior, while 6 (Crispin Glover) is an artist. 5 (John C. Reilly) is a healer, 3 and 4 are the historian twins, and 2 (Martin Landau) is an inventor. 1 (Christopher Plummer) is the oldest stitchpunk and set in his ways. Based on Acker's Academy Award nominated short film of the same name, the film fared well at the box office despite receiving predominantly negative reviews.moreless
