A Better Place is a 1997 independent teen drama directed by Vincent Pereira that was nominated for best picture at the Hamptons International Film Festival. Barret Michaelson (Robert DiPatri) is having a difficult time fitting in with the other kids in his new high school. Other students bully him unrelentingly, and he has no friends. Ryan (Eion Bailey) is a dangerous loner with a haunting history of family violence. When Ryan finds that Barret is about to get beaten up in the locker room, he comes to his rescue. The two boys then form a deep friendship, talking to each other about their innermost thoughts. Their friendship suddenly turns dangerous when Barret is confronted by Ryan's uncontrollable brutality. As Ryan slips deeper into darkness, Barret must make a choice whether or not to stand by his friend. A Better Place deals with themes like teenage suicide, murder, and bullying in a gritty and realistic way.
